District 2 U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Westville, thinks Russian President Vladimir Putins sanctions against the United States and the European Union will backfire. Mullin stopped in McAlester on Thursday, where he addressed the Oklahoma Association of Realtors at The Meeting Place restaurant.
Prior to the meeting, the News-Capital asked Mullin about international issues, including the escalating tensions between the Ukraine and Russia, as well as the fighting between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East.
Putin is a bully who cant be trusted, Mullin said. The Congressman said he believes Putins objectives include redefining Russias borders and redrawing the map to the Cold War era.
Mullin contends the sanctions Putin is placing on agricultural imports and other products from the U.S. as retaliation for U.S. sanctions against Russia in response to Russias meddling in the Ukraine, will not work to Russias advantage. He figured it will have the opposite effect.
I hope it affects his people more than us, Mullin said. Asked about the fighting and the series of shaky cease fires in Gaza, Mullin said My stance has always been Israel has a right to defend itself.
Hamas is a terrorist group, Mullin said. They have one objective to wipe Israel off the map.
Israel has a right to defend itself and its people, said Mullin.
Meanwhile, Matt Robison, vice president of Government Affairs for the Oklahoma Association of Realtors, said the group planned to talk to Mullin about several issues, including the need to make sure long-term loans remain a viable option for those wishing to purchase homes. Robison said theres still a needs for entities such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Robison said its important to maintain home ownership and property ownership, and 30-year mortgages are important in helping make that happen for some buyers.
Lol...that sound you're hearing is the bottom of the barrel getting scraped.
