Last week, Long John Silver’s had a great ad which affectionately showed a Catholic parish’s fish fry.
This week, the impossible happened: A corporation aired a two-minute online ad which showed the Dad as awesome.
The actor says: “My name is…”
“D-A-D!!” screams one of his kids looking for him.
“…and proud of it. And all Dads should be!”
Almost always, fathers are shown as distant, indifferent, until they’re yelling in anger. But this commercial’s father is a regular member of the family who knows and loves his children.
There’s a reason this ad, made for General Mills in Canada, has received over 300,000 views.
Hey, maybe if we want men to be better fathers, we could replace a lot of the dad-bashing with portrayals like this one.
Something refreshing for a change, ping!
Hopefully GM won't pull it due to complaints from the night crawlers who'll slither out to condemn it as hateful or exclusionary.
Interestingly, GM has been ahead of most other corporations in pushing (and funding) Planned Parenthood and homo-everything.
There are so many commercials that portray husbands and fathers as just big doofusses (sic) who are clueless without their brilliant bacon-bringing-frying wives or their tech-genius kiddies...I'm even insulted by those, on behalf of my wonderful husband...this is a nice change! ;)
I LOVE that he has four kids. A real man.
Yes, saw it posted on Catholicvote.org and loved it.

Well, I looked at the ad.
Plus: The dad doesn’t tolerate hats put on crooked.
Minus: The dad doesn’t know the meaning of the word “awesome”.
yep.
pander to the crowd for their cash and then donate to the other side
I haven't watched to ad, but not knowing the meaning of the word awesome is a big plus. It could very well indicate he has conservative training.
Awesome is a Liberal term which describes everything everywhere, thus meaning nothing.
Too late gm.. Rainbow pride lucky charms.
Canada
you won’t see it aired on american airwaves
unless they change his color
My admittedly unscientific survey indicates that for every commercial showing an intact family (dad, mom, kids), four are of the “Stupid White Male” type, and ten are of the “Happy, Fulfilled Single Mom” type.
Sometimes you hear someone say "Totally Awesome!"
I sometimes refer to things as "partially awesome."
I’m speechless....
I was actually glowing watching this. If more young guys saw this, and similar positive examples, we might have a chance.
It’s as good as my other favorite ad that Cadillac put out earlier this year.

It will definitely go on my rotation list of stuff I will listen to for inspiration!
If only we had a conservative TV network where stuff like this would be just a normal part of the broadcast.
Pathetic, isn't it. But, it wasn't always this way.
These are examples of 1950s advertising. The shift towards liberated women began in the 1960s and continued to grow to where now we see men caring for children while the wife (supposing there is one) is off working.
Pendulums swing. Perhaps the above Cheerios ad, if it succeeds, will set a new trend back towards a more traditional family.
The commercial is good; but the cereal sux.
