The latest MLP is far less saccharine than earlier versions. The writers deliberately tried to make the show interesting and clever, rather than trite and/or banal. The result is a bit like the old “Muppet Show” or the Warner Bros stuff, where the kids can get plenty of entertainment from it, but at the same time there are references and jokes aimed solely at the adults.
That said, it’s a somewhat clever cartoon, not a seminal cultural phenomenon. The only thing that made it noteworthy was that it *was* clever, and therefore stood out in the sea of thinly-disguised toy commercials and formulaic animated garbage that makes up the bulk of cartoons today. Plus the creators actually listened to the fans, and incorporated more than a few of their ideas and suggestions. So, it’s fun, and I actually don’t mind watching it with my daughter, unlike many of the other shows she watches. And I’ve seen military “bronies” too, though most were Air Force so infer from that what you will.
I don’t see anything bizarre about you watching with your daughter...children love it when their parents do that.
The program might be clever and ironic as can be. But there are grown men going around dressed up as fuzzy little pink ponies. There’s nothing right about that.
As for military “bronies”, well...I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, but look at what they’re letting into the military these days. My father served in the Army during WWII...I can just imagine the guys in those days putting up with some nut who made public his love of dressing up like a girls’ cartoon.
No, I am never going to a “Brony” convention, I have to work two jobs and beyond that, I have *a life*. But with all the rot and ruin the Obamunist and the Commiecrats are inflicting upon this once great nation, this is harmless.
Let's not be crusty fuddy-duddies who just scorn everything.
