"Speaking as one who is has enjoyed episodes of the s I have to ask the following question. Do you still like Charlie Brown, or Roadrunner, or Bugs Bunny?"

I'm breaking in here, but if a guy occasionally watches one of those cartoons, it's hardly the same thing as dressing up like one of the characters. Also there's the missing component of feminization. If a male is watching My Little Pony, there is something wrong.

"I would like to point out that the costume photograph was at an event much like costumes at any costume party. Or to look at it in a different light are pictures of people in their game time regalia of their favorite sports franchise open to ridicul because they are dressed for an event possibly even with face paint?"

Seriously? You're trying to compare guys who paint up at football games to so-called males who put on fuzzy little pink horse outfits to celebrate their love of something targeted toward little girls?

"No I did not read the article, I’m responding solely to the commentary by fellow freepers oh wait creepers are made fun of too..... Ironic."

Not at all. The only people I've seen "make fun of" Freepers have been leftwingers. Are you saying their mocking is valid? Are you trying to equate leftist hate of conservative values with justifiable aversion to deviancy?

How wonderfully small minded of you to take most extreme example and take as the norm. To claim that MLP is solely for a female audience is equivalent to saying football is exclusively a male audience any female that might swatch it is obviously disturbed if not deviant because the majority no wait the overwhelming majority of the audience is male.

And no it is not only left wingers that make fun of Free Republic moderates would often find many of our views so extreme as to be divant if not dangerous! Pets well as actual hard right wingers could find our views laughably naive and of course just faux conservative.

Since it is unlikely that you ever watched an episode I’d like to point out the most of them have what one would consider a classical moral of the story most often a fairly traditional one at that.

And if you want to defend middle aged men going back to the hallowed halls of their adolescent years be it high school or college dress as if they were still a member of the student body spend a great deal of money doing so that is your right but please do not pretend everyone will hold that as normal behavior many would find it quite deviant.

The latest MLP is far less saccharine than earlier versions. The writers deliberately tried to make the show interesting and clever, rather than trite and/or banal. The result is a bit like the old “Muppet Show” or the Warner Bros stuff, where the kids can get plenty of entertainment from it, but at the same time there are references and jokes aimed solely at the adults.

That said, it’s a somewhat clever cartoon, not a seminal cultural phenomenon. The only thing that made it noteworthy was that it *was* clever, and therefore stood out in the sea of thinly-disguised toy commercials and formulaic animated garbage that makes up the bulk of cartoons today. Plus the creators actually listened to the fans, and incorporated more than a few of their ideas and suggestions. So, it’s fun, and I actually don’t mind watching it with my daughter, unlike many of the other shows she watches. And I’ve seen military “bronies” too, though most were Air Force so infer from that what you will.
