Republican Lamar Alexander became the latest U.S. senator to fend off a tea party challenge in a primary race Thursday, defeating a state senator who had used a familiar tactic in trying to cast him as an out of touch insider.
Meanwhile, scandal-plagued U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais' bid to hang onto his seat was too close to call. Unofficial returns with all precincts reporting showed him with a lead of only 33 votes over state Sen. Jim Tracy, who had raised far more money. A recount was possible.
Alexander's win dealt another blow to national tea party momentum after the stunning primary win over Republican Rep. Eric Cantor in Virginia in June.

Bullroar. There is no “national Tea Party” to win or lose a contest. That’s the magic of it. If you see some prim and proper guy or gal in a suit on a news show saying they represent the Tea Party, you’re probably looking at a modern version of Elmer Gantry.
an out of touch insider.
he is.
In order to beat an insider one has to have a statewide campaign, a good team to get ones name out there and funding ads early on to build support and Carr lacked that.
Bingo! Are you in the running?

He won by reaching out to Democrats. That’s the news that should go national, that these establishment types can’t win with their own base, they have to scare the other side into temporarily supporting them.
Big win, yeah, right.
time for an independent candidate?
BUMP
The RINO’s know they cannot win without Democrat votes these days
Does Tennessee have open primaries?
“Alexander’s win dealt another blow to national tea party momentum after the stunning primary win over Republican Rep. Eric Cantor in Virginia in June”
BS. The race was never in doubt, but the GOPe inserted some extra opponents in the race just to make sure. The TEA party is alive and well and the establishment knows it and fears it
I would rather keep my Constitution.
“Does Tennessee have open primaries?”
Yes
Bummer. It’s a stupid thing and has to be done away with.
33 votes, BUT some ballots MUST still be in the hands of the Postal Systems.
We don’t yet know which Candidate will call for the “RE-COUNT”.
These RINOs had no problem abusing the Tea Party four years ago. Guess they have embraced vote fraud whole-heartedly.
By “abuse” I meant “use”, as in seduce. Note how Marco Rubio slipped in as a “grievous wolf” among the rest.

This and another factor is that the Dem/GOPe carpet bomb on conservatives has hurt the TEA brand among low info GOP voters. Those folks seem to be stampeding to “safe” GOPe types like Loser! in TN.
For someone who supposedly ran a flawed campaign, this is a fine showing against an entrenched incumbent. I wonder how much that cost the GOPe?
The TEA party is far from dead, and there is no one TEA party.
I wish I had taken the advise in your tag line.
Good G*d, the voters of this country really go for mediocre crap.
Well put.
