In recent years, Liberal Democrats have adopted the name Progressives. Is the name appropriate? Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines progressive as moving forward or onward, happening or developing gradually over a period of time, or characterized by progression. If Liberals are indeed progressives, how is it that they deploy pre-Civil Rights era rhetoric to combat any Republican opposition to Democrat initiatives? The same goes for Republican initiatives that Democrats oppose.
Liberals, and their media allies instantly compare voter ID laws to poll taxes and literacy test that were outlawed in the 1965 Voters Rights Act. However, neither will acknowledge that it is regressive to claim that black Americans in 2014 (post-Civil Rights Act) are unable to secure something as simple as a photo ID. In addition, how can Liberal females call themselves progressives if they cannot afford their own birth control? How is that progress? Yet, Democrats accuse Republicans of wanting to take the country back to the 1950s.
Leftist Geraldo Rivera compared The Drudge Report's headlines about the threat of diseases that could possibly be brought over with the influx of illegals crossing our borders to what he calls "fear mongering" that happened when the Irish, Chinese, and Jewish immigrants came to America in the 19th Century. Although women can obtain a safe abortion from a number of clinics throughout the U.S., Nancy Pelosi and other Liberal women claim that any cut in funding would force women back to back alley abortions with coat hangers.

The author is quite wrong about this. I have a copy of the “Progressive” magazine from 2005. It is their 100th anniversary issue and is nothing but reprints of old articles from the previous 100 years. Since the magazine is written for Progs and very few non-Progs ever see it, they feel that they can write honestly in it.
They believe that they are “progressing” towards a future where humans are free of greed and want. They believe that they are “progressing” to an era of cooperation and sharing. They believe that progress like that does not come naturally so there must be some indoctrination and force applied to change human nature to acheive their goals.
They are NOT liberal because the root of liberal is liberty. They stole the name “liberal” when people began to figure out that “Progressive” is nothing but “proto-communist”. So, they changed their name to fool the kids on college campuses (and to fool their parents who were paying the tuition). That’s why they began to take Progressive back a couple decades ago. People began to equate “liberal” with “proto-communist” so it was time for another name change.
I like letting them use “Progressive” because it makes them feel comfortable enough to talk about their real plans for humanity. The best way to defeat them is to get them to feel comfortable enough to tell the truth. As you point out, Margaret Sanger is a perfect example of everything a Prog stands for when you strip away their “I just love people” facade.
It does more than "call into mind". It recognizes the direct and linear inheritance, fascist to Fascist, statist to Statist, that runs throughout the last 100 plus years.
They call themselves progressives because they ARE Progressives, straight out of the Robert LaFollette/Woodrow Wilson mold.
It is accurate, but not derogatory.
It allows me to get through to the mushy middle.
They tend to understand ... which is good because they don't understand much ...
