Senators in Tennessee, Kansas and Hawaii Face Primary Tests This Week

This week brings primary votes for three senators on three different days, with the toughest challenge coming to a Democrat endorsed by President Barack Obama.

But first comes mainstream Republicans trying to ward off tea party challengers in Kansas and Tennessee. Sen. Pat Roberts (R., Kan.) on Tuesday will finally see if the unforced errors he’s committed will cost him a chance for a fourth term.

Mr. Roberts, 78 years old, has led radiologist Milton Wolf in all of the state’s polling, though Mr. Wolf has narrowed the gap in recent weeks. The Senate Conservatives Fund, which spent $580,000 to back Mr. Wolf — the most of any outside group in the state — said last week that a poll it conducted showed a mere nine percentage point difference between the two candidates.

Still, Mr. Roberts’s allies do not seem worried. Fellow Kansan Sen. Jerry Moran, the chairman of the Senate GOP’s campaign arm, told reporters last week that he didn’t expect to stay up late before the race is called for Mr. Roberts.

Mr. Wolf is banking his campaign on using Mr. Roberts’s own words against him. The incumbent, who has worked in Washington since he was a congressional aide in the 1960s, told the New York Times in February that his Kansas residence amounts to a recliner in a supporter’s home. He later told a radio interviewer questioning how frequently he is in Kansas that he is there “every time I have an opponent.”

Alexander will probably not get a majority of the votes, but it will not matter. Since Tennessee does not require a runoff if there is no majority, Carr and Flinn together will probably get more votes and Alexander will still return to D.C.

The TN GOPe likes the current system as they always seem to find a second "conservative" to split the primary votes and elect their guy with less than 50%.

Would you be worried about running against Obama’s cousin?

Funny thing is I was at a noon BBQ in Overland Park with Sen Roberts, Sen Moran and Congressman Yoder. Seems that most of the elected Republican’s in KS both State and Federal support the re-election of Senator Roberts.

Saw Campaign Carl Cammeron from Fox news there covering the event.

Would you really vote for an inexperienced Member of the Obama family for your Senator?
