The man who shot the cellphone video showing a police officer using an apparent chokehold on a Staten Island man who later died, was arrested Saturday night on charges that he was carrying a stolen loaded handgun, a law-enforcement official said.

Ramsey Orta, 22 years old, was charged by the New York Police Department with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a weapon with a previous conviction, police said.

The video shooter, Ramsey Orta, is said to have a criminal record. Yet this is a most interesting "coincidence".

Wait until the video of the cops planting the handgun comes out.

Well, yeah ... NOW he has a “criminal record” - after some corrupt NYC cops likely planted the illegal firearm. There is no such thing as “coincidences” - particularly where dirty cops are involved ... Just remember their motto: “To Protect and to Serve (Ourselves!)”

A handgun stolen from my home was used by cops for this exact purpose. The feds did an investigation of Northeast Detectives Division in Philly. If they wanted to get someone off the street they would miraculously find a gun in their car when they pulled them over for a broken tail light.

I eventually got the gun back after ballistics did their thing and the trials were concluded.

The cops were found guilty. IMHO they were the ones fencing all the stuff the thieves stole.

That is why they always find a gun and drugs on you after they kill you. They put them there, why shouldn’t they find them? They will also find child porn on your computer that they planted there.

Sounds like a setup to get the guy who took the video out of the way. He will not be available in court to verify that the video was the one he took and the charges will be dropped against the cop.

What are the odds?
A variation of the drop-gun routine?

Could be a coincidence. Could also be "legitimate." A very high percentage of ethnic surnames living in New York have criminal records. Just about everyone else has come close even if they haven't been actually convicted.

Some of them have done nothing no more sinister than been caught with an unregistered firearm. What was that quote from Atlas Shrugged about the law wanting to make all citizens criminals so the arrest card could be played at an opportune time?

I suspect this guy may not be available to testify because he’ll have an unfortunate accident. Choking on a bar of soap, beaten to death in solitary, something.

Here's what the article states about his record:

"The law-enforcement official said Mr. Orta is known by a street name of "Sparks" and has a prior record going back to 2009, including criminal trespass, assault and drug possession.

Most recently, he was charged in May with robbery with a box cutter, the official said. In June 2013, Mr. Orta was charged with gun possession after he allegedly threatened to kill someone, the official said."

Referring to the article, there isn’t information that Orta denies possession of the gun. He is quoted as saying: “You’re only mad because I filmed your boy.”

If this was some sort of moronic set up to get him out of the way to prevent him from testifying, it has already failed miserably.

In the movies, something like you suggest might happen. The video speaks for itself, and, if he were to die before any legal proceeding, the facts will not be in dispute as to who took the video. It will be admissible in a criminal or civil proceeding.
