Israelis are forced to run to bomb shelters all day. How would you like to live with your family like that? The economic cost to Israel of having its citizens running for bomb shelters all day is immense.

The IDF immediately laid a big bombardment on the area after Rosin’s capture, in accordance with what it terms the Hannibal Directive, which aims at preventing the bearing off of live Israeli prisoners by injuring the captors, striking their vehicle, etc, even at the risk of injuring the Israeli prisoner. Some IDF officers have stated the view that it’s preferable for the IDF to kill one of its own soldiers than allow him to be taken captive. Unsurprisingly the Hannibal Directive (or Procedure) is a controversial matter in Israel. Numerous soldiers and their families find it repellent.
