Ben Carson plans First Iowa Visit, headlines Polk GOP Fundraiser
The Iowa Republican ^ | 7/23/2014

Des Moines, IA.—The Republican Party of Polk County will host a Summer Sizzle & Straw Poll on Sunday, August 24 from 5-8 p.m. at the Izaak Walton League Center, 4343 George Flagg Parkway, Des Moines. National, state and local candidates are also invited to participate in this summer fun-filled event.

The Special Guest Speaker for the evening will be Dr. Ben Carson in his first public Iowa visit of 2014 as he criss-crosses the nation.

The Republican Party of Polk County will also conduct a Presidential Straw Poll as part of the evening’s festivities. As the largest county in Iowa, all eyes (and candidates) are focused on the Des Moines metro county. A majority of all votes cast in Iowa elections come from Polk County.

There will be a public book signing following the event onsite for purchase and autographing, said the event coordinators.

Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D. is an emeritus professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for 29 years. He was the inaugural recipient of a professorship dedicated in his name and is now the Emeritus Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D. and Dr. Evelyn Spiro, R.N. Professor of Pediatric Neurosurgery.

Dr. Carson is a FOX News contributor, writes a weekly opinion column for the Washington Times, and his newest book released in May, One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America’s Future, is still a New York Times bestseller. He and his wife Candy have three sons.

Chairman Will Rogers stated, “The opportunity to welcome Dr. Ben Carson is a great way to start our traditional campaign season. Contributions for this event will focus on implementing our ‘boots on the ground’ plan. The key to winning this November is an extensive door-to-door voter identification program focused on registering new voters, and turning them out to vote for Republican candidates this fall.”

The Republican Party of Polk County is touting this as the largest event of the year to support its outstanding Republican ticket. It is expected to be a sold-out event. Individual tickets at $50 per person can be purchased by contacting the Republican Party of Polk County office at (515) 280-6438 and at info@polkgop.com. Sponsorships for the event are also available at various levels.

A majority of all votes cast in Iowa elections come from Polk County.

That is not correct.

Dr. Carson presented a recorded message recently that called for “replacing” Obamacare, the talking point of the GOPe.

Obamacare (and other big government entitlements) must be “repealed and reversed”, not “repealed and replaced” as Boehner and other Republican leaders said.

Ben says all the right things and he seems to have all the right background/history ... plus he’s black.

It depends on where you live on whether you should have a semi- automatic weapon, Ben Carson? On every issue except his Detroit mentality on guns, he is a winner. I prefer him over a lot of our other choices. He thinks if your semi- automatic could fall into the hands of a crazy person, you shouldn’t have it. Heck, if you lived in a town of four, there are probably two crazy people. Not a vision for gun control I support, sorry Ben.

Carson ought to trademark his name so he get some of the money back from those using it for their purposes. The same way the Martin’s did with Trevon. BTW Carson has made many statements supporting the assertion Treyvon was the “victim” and Zimmerman was the attacker. Then there’s the gun issue.

I seem to remember a couple three columns by him regarding how we conservatives have to go-along-get-along with the GOPe so that the GOPe can win in 2014/16 and make things all better (like they did back when they were in power).....NCLB, Prescription Medicare, DHS, TSA, NSA programs, CIA programs et al.

Frankly, I think because he is black is why many people overlook things like this. That’s how we got Obama - no one actually listened to the words he’d been spouting - at least not in the national media anyway.

I won’t vote for him. He’s a ‘deal-maker’.

Where has he even been a city councilman, mayor or county supervisor? You don’t throw someone with absolutely no government experience into the top spot, I don’t care how smart, charismatic or wonderful they might be. Presidents are governors, senators, generals or at least congressmen or cabinet secretaries. We have never placed a complete neophyte in there and when we come close to it (Barack Obama) disaster strikes. For instance, Ted Cruz, although a freshman senator, was the longest serving solicitor general of Texas in history and has forgotten more about constitutional law than Mr. Obama ever knew. Sarah Palin was on the city council, then mayor (and was president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors), state energy chairwoman, then governor.

I’d like to see Ben Carson run for Mayor of Detroit. He’s a hometown hero and if he can handle that snakepit of a city council he will have proven himself on several fronts.

Plus I think some close contact with Police chief Craig will help solidify him on guns.

We agree 100% on that -—even beyond his commie ideology, one reason we are in so much crap is that Zero hasn’t the slightest idea what he’s doing about anything.

It’s like a mentally-challenged little tike went on a White House tour and snuck into the Oval Office & nobody wanted to tell him he wasn’t really the president.

There’s also the issue of illegal immigration which, I believe, he is soft on.

We had that ex-professional wrestler once upon a time.

I don’t understand how the Democrats can consistently run their most liberal candidates and Republicans have to run guys from the country club.

I want to see a very conservative candidate.

Here in Pennsylvania, we have a Republican clean sweep and they can’t enact any major changes other than raising taxes (gasoline).

I refuse to be a Republican voter anymore...I am voting on a personal basis.

people thought Obama had a thin resume..

Dr Carson is a great doctor no doubt.

he has not even ran a city as an elected official that I know of. He needs some seat time.
