Cornyn No Lock for Leader if McConnell Goes Down
breitbart.com ^ | 7/22/14 | Dan Riehl

While Republicans are reluctant to speculate about the possibility of a Mitch McConnell loss to Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky this November, when asked if his number two, Texas Republican John Cornyn, was a lock for Leader if he does lose, it appears Cornyn may have good reason to look over his shoulder in the event that scenario plays out.

Given that a McConnell loss would likely mean the GOP would have failed in winning a Senate Majority, it would seem a change in leadership might be in order.

Some Senators also seemed to express concern that Cornyn would be forced to go to the Right to placate his Texas colleague Senator Ted Cruz. What sources seem to be missing, or perhaps stopped short of saying is that, given Cornyn has been so easily out shone by fellow Texan Cruz, perhaps he lacks what it takes to be a strong leader in the first place.

For now, it's purely speculation and McConnell may well win re-election with the GOP securing a Senate majority, as many expect. Some would likely see that as a reason for business as usual for the Republican Party in Washington.

However, McConnell remains in all but a dead heat with Grimes in Kentucky and a loss for the Minority Leader would likely send shock waves through the GOP even more significant than the ones triggered by Eric Cantor's defeat in his recent primary.

This is the kind of story I like to see first thing in the morning. The 2014 chessboard is close to being set. Cornyn was head of the NRSC that supported Specter, Crist and Castle for Senate.

Cornyn is one of the few people who I think would actually be worse that McConnell as leader. Cornyn is not only wishy-washy, but he’s also stupid. Anyone who was in charge of the disaster that was the 2010 Republican Senate campaign is not going to win battles against Reid and Obama.

The possibility of the GOP losing seats in GA, MS and KY is quite real. My gut feeling is the D’s will win in GA and KY.

Supposedly there’s a suit coming. Other than that, not much going on.

I think it will be a bad year for all incumbents. Barring unforeseen scandal, I think republicans lose GA and KY, but hold MS. I think republicans win CO, NC, MT, MI.

Cornyn has shown us in the past his qualities as a leader

John Cornyn claims to be the 2nd most conservative member of the Senate.

Yet, as Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, he
hand-selected these "Republican" candidates:
  • Arlen Specter - Democrat
  • Charlie Crist - Democrat
  • Lincoln Chafee - Democrat
  • Lisa Murkowski - Independent

Also, when he had a chance to stop ObamaCare by supporting Ted Cruz' filibuster

he FAILED

and hid behind a meaningless vote later.

He pulled the same trick on the Senate amnesty bill
and again on raising the debt limit.

Georgia could be close with Michelle Nunn running on her Daddy’s name and sizable contingent of dem zombies that vote for free stuff. Add to that the mud-slinging in the just ended GOP primary. That said, Georgia has been hit hard economically by the socialist policies of the 0bama regime. Pictures are already being shown of Nunn embracing the kenyan bastard, and my feeling is that most despise 0bama, so I think Perdue will hold the senate seat for the GOP. I am leery though of how reliable Perdue may be.

Hmmmm.... not so sure about that. I think NC and MI will be very close. What’s your take on the Senate races in LA and AK?
