Michelle Obama backed up her husband on immigration and the border crisis while pushing her pro-education Reach Higher program at a Hispanic advocacy group summit in Manhattan this afternoon.
The first ladys speech to the League of United Latin American Citizens convention focused mostly on her campaign to encourage disadvantaged youth to pursue higher education. But Ms. Obama did take time to push President Barack Obamas plan to provide legal status and a path to citizenship for the 11 million-plus undocumented immigrants living in the United Stateswho have been subject to deportation.
With a broken immigration system hurting so many of our families and neighbors, some of you right now might be wondering why Ive decided to focus on education today, Ms. Obama said. We must try to tackle all these issues at the same time.
The first lady also reproached the Republican-run House of Representatives for failing to pass the immigration reform measures that have already cleared the Senate, and for its hesitance to approve her husbands $3.7 billion emergency relief bill to alleviate the growing crisis at the Mexican border, where thousands of Central American youth continue to pour in illegally. She repeated her husbands vow to use executive orders to bypass Congress and force-fix the undocumented situation.
Make no mistake about it, we must continue to fight on immigration. As my husband has said, he is going to do whatever action it takes! the first lady said to raucous applause. We cant afford to wait on Congress to lift up our children! We cant afford to wait for anybody!
LULAC, an 85-year-old organization based in Washington, D.C., has long called for undocumented immigrant amnesty and the granting of government financial assistance to college students lacking proper naturalization paperwork. The group also recently praised the presidents promise to use executive action to move immigration reform and alleviate the situation on the border in the face of Congressional opposition.
Never realized she might be smart enough to learn Spanish. Color me surprised. Or, did the little boy king pay for English lessons at 7 trillion for the audience? Do hope he got our monies worth.
While Republicans tell their base to shut the H up and vote...
What elective or appointed office does she hold?
May they walk the same scaffold.
How did you come to the conclusion that she addressed the group in Spanish?
I should know I have a sibling who is a member and believe me he is for open borders and I’m NOT.
well there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth
I ‘assumed’ a Latino summit the first thought came to mind. They come to America, bother not to learn the English language and expect ‘special treatment’ for Us to learn theirs if we wish to communicate. Press 1 for English, #2 for español. And of course being called a racist once too often, the word Latino to me means nothing more than arriving from south of the border....therefore, Spanish. Comprende?
The immigration system is unenforced, not broken. And you idiot husband refuses to enforce the law. ESAD MO
That wookie can’t speak Spanish; it would have been all over Univision doing commercials if it could. The organization is 85 years old; I think they all speak English.
I’ve met a few Anglo-Americans who could speak a measure of Spanish; I’ve never met a black American who bothered trying to learn it. In fact, black co-workers are incensed when Latino co-workers speak among themselves in Spanish.
The Immigration laws are not so called “broken”
and if the illegal aliens don’t want their feelings hurt then don’t come to our country illegally..
Stay home and be happy...
Man, she sucked-up big-time.
Let’s be compassionate and send her a case of lip balm.
LOL.
