Feinstein is on now. She believes the intake centers are being well run. In between gushing over Jeh Johnson and company, she’s quoting Section 235B3 of some document to urge the HHS to declare ‘exceptional circumstances’ to the immigration law. American mothers are narrowminded and if they could just ‘see the children’ they would change their minds.

the dems trying to equate poor children escaping war in their own countries to Vietnamese boat people or children in the shipping container from China. Need to act before August. Dire. Sky is falling. Jeh Johnson - doing nothing is not an option. blah blah.

Mercowski challenges the need for building perm facilities - is this the right answer if it’s a temporary problem that an immigration bill claims to fix?

(so far, noone’s been bold enough to point out the ‘children’ are generally between 12-17.)

Hon Thomas A. Shannon, Jr. is admitting that in the 3 primary countries where the illegals are coming from, the exodus of ‘refugees’ out of their country into countries adjacent to their own countries is minimal - small numbers; most focus on getting to USA.

Durbin pointing out that the fees requested for attorneys, $1.5 mil, is for 10 thousand children, but we (have?anticipate?) 90 thousand children - (the funding) is not even close.

Durbin proud of DACA but won’t let people blame what is going on, on his DACA.

Jeh Johnson defines ‘discretion’ as the ‘ability to do the right thing.’ What he believes is the right thing “for the country and for these kids.”

Hon Sylvia Burwell says (additional attorney) funding will come from HHS (funds).

Harkin says he can’t reconcile the admin saying they want to send children back as soon as possible but also saying the children are escaping war and rape and violence.

Harkin disagrees with Jeh Johnson having ‘discretion’ what does that mean?

Harkin promoting ‘meaningful counsel’ for illegals to apply for asylum - border patrol can’t do it - (children) need to be taken in and given protections under our law and under international law.

Full legal rights. (Obama breaking law by shipping back)

Social workers, child advocates, mental health workers

Protecting their rights under international law. HHS must protect them.

Law that borderpatrol must hand over to HHS - HHS has no money - must have money.

Would we ship Syrians back? we are not being overrun - 90K versus 300M - we can deal with this.

We talk about returning them after they’ve had counsel.

Jeh Johnson admitting to Mr. Shelby that (abt 10,000) are deported per year of 161,000 unaccompanied minors before crisis. Many have turned 18 in the meantime. (this comment is kinda left hanging in the air)

Mr. Shelby questioning how children are placed, are parents illegal or legal? If here legally, isn’t there a legal process already in place for the parents to send for their children? Johnson skirts specifics but admits for those parents here legally there is a process in place.
