MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Gov. Bill Haslam says the state is offering to dedicate Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers to help Memphis deal with a rash of sick calls from police officers upset about cuts to their health care benefits.
Memphis police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said Tuesday the number of officers who are currently out sick has increased to 554. That represents about a quarter of the total force, which stands at about 2,200 officers.

Remember that these goons stealing sick days are the same goons who will stop you, detain you and ticket you for seat belt violations or improper left turn or whatever b.s. they can dream up. I can’t figure out why anybody views cities, city hall and cops as anything but a big nasty joke. Cops don’t deserve respect or deference. They deserve scorn and ridicule. That goes double for the failed attorney’s now anointed with cheap polyester robes.
Scorn is as powerful as the respect these guys have formerly Enjoyed.
Fire them all. Jeez. Why is this stuff tolerated?
Seriously?
Seems like a boon to budget problems.
They need 2,200 cops in a city of 650,000?
Seems to me they could permanently put them on leave and reduce their budget by around $100 million...
I see youve never been to Memphis. Its nickname, Little Mogadishu by the Mississippi, is well earned. Its a cesspool.
“They need 2,200 cops in a city of 650,000?”
Actually, that’s not nearly enough to keep Memphis safe.
Been there plenty of times. Even to see that horrid Elvis Museum.
I’ll admit the place is a mess like Kansas City or Saint louis.
Meanwhile, dogs across the city breath a sigh of relief.
Yes they get to live another day at least.
I saw a “cops” episode one time where the lady cop pulled over a guy (black guy) with no tag, no license, no insurance, and a whole room full of furniture in the back of his beat up 1970’s rusted pickup.
What happens? He gives some sob story about feeding 14 kids-—FOURTEEN, and having to move. What does she do? No citation, nothing. Follows him home and tells him not to get on the road again until he gets proper “papers”.
Little Mogadishu indeed!

Remember New Orleans, and all the Ghost Payroll cops that never existed??
Do an “All Call” and count how many show up....
Let memphis put a bounty on criminals and they can dispense with most of their cops.
Elderly could once again enjoy a walk in the evening - it might lead to a financial payout.
