Yeah, the Flats are being redeveloped for more stable and productive multi-uses. The bar scene went sour years ago, as bar scenes usually do.

“Surprised they don’t have it in Mexico City. By the time the convention rolls around it will probably be the capitol of Texas”

Bump.

Having it in Mexico would be the “loving”(*) thing to do (*used by permission of Jebbie Bush).

Ohio is a closed shop state so the unions will get lots of work in Cleveland. I expect them to perpetrate some street ugliness as well.

From an old Barney Miller episode:

Wojo (to Harris): “Have fun in Cleveland!”

Dietrich: “He’ll be the first.”

I'm not sure that this is good news, and I live in Cleveland...

Be glad. You can be a volunteer. I worked the 1984 RNC convention and it was a blast.

I might be interested, but I'm no longer a Republican - just a conservative. I'm not sure I'd be welcome these days.

What difference does it make?

The convention could be North of the Arctic Circle or in Sin City but unless we have a dynamic conservative nominee we will end up with another communist interloper in the oval office.

It's definitely good news to me, and I live in Dallas.

The company I worked for owned about three acres above the flats, right across from the old LTV Steel plant on the Cuyahoga. In an earlier life, the ground served as a small tank farm for steamship fuelings. It was literally drenched with oil.

I wanted to sell it but the company's lawyers said to just keep on paying taxes since it was cheaper than an environmental lawsuit that was sure to come from a new owner.

We installed a series of trenches with reclaimer pumps to suck the oil up and they ran for a decade. The oil ooze was sold to an asphalt paving company.

Just as we thought the pumps were reducing the oil content, a surge of oil moved on to the property from land across the street. Digging back in the records, we found the acreage once was once part of John D. Rockefeller's first turn of the century oil refineries.

The Cleveland orchestra is the most recorded orchestra in the world. The Emerald Necklace is a beautiful asset maybe unmatched. The Cleveland Museum of Art is world class, recently finished a fabulous 300 million dollar addition and refurbishing, and it's free to boot. The Cleveland Clinic speaks for itself.

Cleveland is about 400,000 population and has downsized rather well, everything considered. It is no Detroit, by any stretch. In fact, we need to be careful to keep a low profile; too much publicity, and the current net influx of millennials may accelerate and bring back the problems of growth.

“I really like Korea House”

Yup! It’s good! I usually go on the weekend for Dim Sum, and alternate between the previously mentioned places.

WOW...so much ignorance here about Cleveland and the community. I’m a west sider, lived here for 25 years and love it. Beautiful scenery with the lake. New convention center. Tons of hotels in the area to accommodate, great restaurants a plenty.
A great time to send a message to the Democrats here that we will not back down. Why don’t you all stop being arm chair QB’s and support every once in a while a decision the RNC makes. I do not like our RINO’s one bit. I do not like the way they bend over for the magic muslim... I’m a pretty laid back, not in your face guy here on this site but most of you are WAY OFF BASE!
Stop the b*tching and make this a fantastic situation to take advantage of!
