Chinese authorities are cracking down on religious activities following deadly unrest in the country’s Muslim northwest, banning citizens from fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Statements posted Wednesday on websites of schools, government agencies and local party organizations in the Xinjiang region said the ban was aimed at protecting students’ well-being and preventing any official promotion of religion, The Associated Press reported.

“No teacher can participate in religious activities, instill religious thoughts in students or coerce students into religious activities,”er

It’s Communist China. How do they know the locals aren’t just starving?

Good one, but we're talking about Xinjian Province, not North Korea.

“It’s Communist China. How do they know the locals aren’t just starving?”

You might want to visit there and be surprised. This isn’t the China of 40 years ago, or even 20 years ago. They’re kicking our butts in GNP growth every year (which is as much our fault, as in unions and regulations), and either have or very soon pass us in total GNP. I keep reading that they’re going to collapse, now coming on 25 years of reading that...still not collapsing, nor showing any signs of it.

Chinese history did not begin in 1948 with Communist rule, it began 2100 BC before dynasties formed, and just dynastic history which includes the Communist (they are sort of a dynasty) we are talking about 2300 years of historical experience. Dealing with Turko peoples (before and after Islam) began during th silk route of the Han dyanasty thru present. This is not the first uprising China dealt with in this region. The leaders of China are Communist but they are not divorced of their vast historical past experience. IMHO China has a more realistic approach in assessing and dealing with Muslim Turko peoples then a US gov approach which is riddled with PC and policy of national suicide.

Actually...majority of the jobs shipped to Communist China from US were located in non-union right to work states in the South. Just about all the clothing and textile jobs shipped from US were in non Union South

I wouldn’t cheerlead the Communist Chinese so much...and bad mouth Americans at the same time

“Actually...majority of the jobs shipped to Communist China from US were located in non-union right to work states in the South. Just about all the clothing and textile jobs shipped from US were in non Union South”

I’m sure that was true initially, and still holds today, but the Chinese now make A LOT MORE than that, and do a damn good job, in most cases. The drive axles in my older cars are brand new from China and have worked great. The American ones that were rebuilt sucked and one busted on me 30 miles from home. Just an example...another is the computer that I’m typing on.

“I wouldn’t cheerlead the Communist Chinese so much...and bad mouth Americans at the same time”

I am NOT bad-mouthing Americans, I’m bad-mouthing unions - they have NOTHING TO DO with American values - we had to struggle DURING WORLD WAR 2 just to get them to load our boats to re-supply Britain.

Regarding China, I’m just pointing out the OBVIOUS. Being in denial will not help the US a bit.
