iirc, he was born and went by Richard Scaife, but the RATS and the L$M inserted Mellon into his name to make sure people knew he was related to the Mellon family and, in their eyes anyway, sully the Mellon Bank and family becasue he dare stand up to the RAT-King and party...I once met a scholar who had the last name Scaife (who died fairly young a few years ago). As far as I know he was not related to the famous Richard Scaife, or if so only distantly. I recall a conversation with a leftist professor in the same field who was extremely vitriolic in his comments on Prof. Scaife, because he was convinced he was Richard Scaife's son. Classic case of a loony leftist.
