The campaign of Republican Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran attempted to hold a conference call with the media on Wednesday, but was forced to cancel it midway through after someone hijacked the call with provocative questions about race.
Cochran adviser Austin Barbour had been giving remarks to reporters for about seven minutes during the call when an unnamed person interrupted and started asking questions. Id like to know if black people were harvesting cotton, why do you think its ok to harvest their votes? the activist said. Theyre not animals.

To certain posters who are now criticizing the McDaniel camp:
He cannot file charges to overturn the result until it has been certified. In a blatant display of stonewalling, that has not happened yet thanks to Barbour and crew who are trying to run out the clock.
We have yet to really learn how powerful the communists democrats are. Each surprise bring another revelation. Mississippi got a rude awaking.
Jim Robinson can make this breaking news as part of our July Freep-a-thon, just make it breaking news...
Are Thad Cochran and Haley Barbour intentionally stonewalling on validating the results so that they can run out the clock?
By making it question, it doesn't have to be proved, and it can put the problem of disproving it on Thad Cochran/Haley Barbour's camp...
May I ask...was Thad even on the call or were his “Barbour Family” surrogates filling in for him?
“If the individuals whove decided that they want to hijack this call will just let us get through with it, Ill be glad to answer any of the questions, Barbour said.”
This says it all. I believe the press conference was a set up for this, another attempt to paint McDaniel supporters as racist and deflect attention from Cochran, his campaign, the barbours and all others involved including the RNSC and RNC. The conference was billed as a THAD COCHRAN press conference. It was by invite only no public. Thad wasn’t there, his staff or campaign staff weren’t there or anyone else involved with the campaign except AUSTIN BARBOUR. Austin took a few jabs at McDaniel and his campaign, offering no news or statement nothing of any import and then opened it to teleconference questions and apparently the number had not been kept confidential and was apparently open to anyone and not just journalist as it was purported to be. SURPRISE!! SURPRISE!! SURPRISE!! an unknown caller, had to be a McDaniel supporter calls in with a “racist” remark and that ends the conference. As I see it this was just another “DIRTY TRICK” by the barbours.
I don’t know of any reports that thad, his staff, campaign, any of the other barbours or anyone else with the campaign was on or even knew of the call. Austin may have thought this could help bail his sorry ass out.
:: I dont know of any reports that thad, his staff, campaign, any of the other barbours or anyone else with the campaign was on or even knew of the call. ::
So, to your knowledge;
Who established the call?
Who conducted the call?
Who participated in the call?
Who was designated to answer inquiries regarding the election results?
Your reply is sorely lacking in particulars...
The conference call was put in place for journalist that could not be present and I assume that was done by “whoever” actually called this press conference, which I’m questioning, was it the campaign or Austin Barbour. With all that’s been going on in this campaign I question the credibility of the cochran campaign and the barbours.
You’re questions to me are legitimate and answeres to these are what I would like to hear. Are you inferring we should not comment or try to find the answers, just walk away until this is another done deal?
Thad was unavailable for comment, but his panicked farmyard friend DID say “baaaaaaaaaa!”
Not in the least.
I was just responding to my single source of info regarding the call...you.
I infer no political evasions on your part. As you said, my questions are equivalent to your questions.
If Choch-roach doesn’t want to show up to his own press-con, what should a “politically savvy” participant think?
Thanks.
The article states that an Arthur Barbour was holding the call to that point...
Smells alot like Barbour clan was trying to trump up Thad via the Conference call.
Good thing that someone interrupted the staged event by the [Haley] Barbour family.
Henry Barbour has also been a player in this election...
I may have Hurricane Arthur on my mind...
I've had the same thoughts.
I don't trust anybody in the GOPe.
Someone should ask him why he is not paying atleast minimum wage to his crossover voters or is $15 for that kind of work considered minimum wage.
>> By making it question,
An arrogant dismissal would likely be the response.
OK, I'm slow, what in the devil does this even mean? Blacks harvesting cotton equals Cochran harvesting Black votes? Huh?
