America's fertility rate is currently at just under 1.9, representing the number of children the average woman has in her lifetime. 2.1 children per woman over her lifetime is considered the replacement rate. Not good, ping!

It seems to me that analysts assume that the Social Security/Medicare apparatus will, somehow, be sustained, even as we look forward to a situation of two workers per retiree. Are they missing something, or am I?
