“Women-Owned” Labels Coming To Walmart Shelves This Fall

We already know consumers tend to purchase products that make them feel like they are making a difference in the world. But will a new “women-owned” label on goods have the same increased sales effect as “organically certified” or “locally sourced” labels have enjoyed? We should know more this fall when Walmart starts using the new label on a range of products. The logo, which is the work of two nonprofit groups and Walmart stores, aims to bring consumer recognition of products provided by women-owned businesses on store shelves,Bloomberg Businessweek reports. The retail giant will begin using the small, circular symbol – representative of women holding hands – on everything from lingerie to salsa this September.

I rarely go to Wal-Mart. Maybe once every three months....but I am inclined to avoid any special labeling on a product that smacks of being "green", "x owned" or PC.

Not because I hate the planet or because I am a bigot. I think products ought to be sold on the basis of their VALUE, and trying to "guilt" me into buying something in a mass market like Wal-Mart is despicable.

I would rather buy items as a charitable contribution to those who REALLY are struggling. For instance, there are women in Afghanistan making shawls and trying to sell there wares in order to survive....or communities of women in Haiti working with missionaries and entrepreneurs to make native jewelry. The craftsmanship is remarkable and worth supporting....for the sake of the women....

But Wal-Mart or anyone else trying to highlight mass market stuff? For me it will BACKFIRE.

The dividing of races, genders etc continues at breakneck speed.

All of this does not end well.

Really? I must not have gotten the memo.

It’s a liberal thing - they derive their righteousness by their advocacy.

So, they “make a difference in the world” by doing meaningless things like recycling water bottles and buying “women owned” products.

There IS a money making opportunity here, and a way to drain some resources from the left...

I posted this a couple of days ago but I saw a TV ad that was embarrassing to any clear-minded woman. It was for Pantene. These people are insane with their hatred of males with some sort of website/Twitter designated for the theme.

The theme was “Why are women always saying sorry.” And then it ends with a voice saying “Don’t be sorry, stand up and be strong.” It shows simple daily events such as a man sitting in a lobby on a bench occupied by a woman and then she moves and says “sorry.” Or a wife taking the blankets in bed and saying “sorry.”

We are becoming less civil as a nation and liberal women are a primary cause. Now a simple gesture of kindness is dismissed and strength is shown by the man apologizing? And men don’t apologize in those instances?

A label telling you that a ‘man’ doesn’t own this business, that is advancement today? No wonder modern America is such a miserable and fracturing society.

The progressive's world is steeped in hatred.

Hatred & resentment are like oxygen to them - they cease to be without them.

Right. Notice you never see female conservative entrepreneurs play the gender card and say “buy my product because I’m a woman and therefore you should support women-owned businesses”.

My .02:

I, for one, will endeavor to NOT purchase goods with a MBE/WBE label (minority business enterprise/woman business enterprise), those being granted advantages over everyone else just because the ‘owner’(s) qualify for special treatment...’subsidies’ by one definition. ‘Affirmative Action’ by another.

I call it ‘truth in labeling’. ‘Backfire’ is a good word for the program.
