Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas is out with an awesome and slightly hilarious note in which he argues Tesla is now, maybe, the most important car company in the world.
"Not even two years after the delivery of the first Model S, Tesla Motors has transformed from fledgling start-up to arguably the most important car company in the world. We are not joking."

And finally, there's what the traditional automakers are saying, talk that has caused Jonas to go full Keanu.
"General Motors last year established its 'Team Tesla' to advance the development of long range EVs. A BMW engineer recently explained to us how Tesla's presence has helped reinvigorate the spirit of automobile innovation that was beginning to run stale, further testifying that BMW will be a stronger company longer term because Tesla is around. Whoa."

Until viable batteries are invented the electric car will be a sad, expensive joke.

I wonder about that, too-I don’t even know a customer who can afford a car made by Tesla, or a Beemer for that matter. I do live and work in the land of 4x4’s, whether pickup or SUV, but I’m willing to bet there are more people like me than the ones who lust for a Tesla enough for it to outsell an F350, a Chevy truck, SUV or even my old 4Runner...

Tesla is a slam dunk short, I believe.
HOWEVER....

Tesla’s new battery plant (at $5 Billion dollars) will employ 6,500 people.
For 2013 their goal was 35,000 cars. I’m no math expert, but it seems like a lot of people just for the batteries, and a lot of expense.
Oh - speaking of expenses, also from 2013:
“The net loss for the quarter was $16.3 million, compared with an $89.9 million net loss a year earlier.”
But hey, if they can do this without any government help, or any governmental rules pushing electric cars, good on them. /s

"Until viable batteries are invented the electric car will be a sad, expensive joke." Well there are electric cars that CAN fill a need BUT they are akin to aviation puddle jumpers.
Actually calling them cars is a misnomer they are golf carts with windshields. For warm weather stuff like running to the neighborhood store and bank and such they work. BUT they will never allow you to travel far without spending lots of time laid over while you wait for the batteries to recharge.
Liberals can never understand that part. They think it will be just like going to the gas station 10 minutes for a fill up and continue on your way.
Just not gonna happen at least until someone figures out a more efficient way to charge batteries in a short time.

You truly believe that none of that $5 billion is government money with Barack Obama in the White House and Jerry Brown in the governor’s mansion? Hahahahahaha!
