The Presbyterian Church USA General Assembly has been making a lot of news on the same sex marriage issue. But this vote has my eyebrows raised. The convention voted no on protecting babies born alive after a failed abortion. From the failed motion:
1. Call for the Presbyterian Mission Agency and member congregations to enter a two-year season of reflection upon the plight of children unwanted by human society, both born and not-yet born, and to purposefully seek to enter the pure worship of God by offering aid, comfort, and the Gospel to those responsible for the care of our most desperate orphans (including those who survive abortion procedures): parents, siblings, church and community leaders, and the medical profession.
2. Direct the Moderator of the General Assembly and the Stated Clerk to issue statements that denounce the practice of killing babies born live following an abortion procedure, such as was revealed in the Dr. Kermit Gosnell clinic in Philadelphia.
There was more to the motion, which supported a pro-life perspective...(follow source URL)

Offerings to Moloch—God punished the Israelis for this.
This has always been a liberal Presbyterian group. The headline is misleading.
Sorry but some of these mainline Protestant churches can no longer be considered Christian. A significant percentage of their clergy are agnostic and do not believe in the divinity of Christ. They have devolved into neo pagan entities of decadence and decline. They have embraced abortion, homosexuality and all sorts of behavior that is antithetical to Christian values and practices.
My Catholic Church long ago left me.
Now, the wife’s Presbyterian Church has left her.
We’re looking.
On another thread we were talking about how good people can believe in global warming but imho this is far worse than that. There’s no way you or I can say we are superior to every single Presbyterian as the group numbers almost two million. Good people but with horrific ideological flaws exist. I honestly think we’ve got a lot to learn here.
Post-Birth Abortion?
If age is no barier I have a few nominations.
bttt
Very sad. Don’t they understand God’s laws?
The vast majority of people who are members of PCSUSA churches are probably not even aware of these votes. It doesn’t really do anything at the local church level, and the little old ladies have no idea what their offerings are going to. The daycare still functions, everyone still (not really so much) shows up on Sunday and Wednesday, they still have choir, and the pastor still says some stuff about how they need to be better followers of Jesus by doing more for the poor.
"The world is run by those who show up."
It seems those who are showing up to church need discernment, to pay less attention to ESPN and get in this fight. The gullible masses live in a bread and circus world. Too many people want to be left alone and feel it's their right to stand by and passively do their 9-5 and BBQ on the weekends. Sorry sheeple but we're in a war whether you like it or not. You will go down fighting evil or be consumed by evil.
For these people, it was just a short hop-skip-and-jump from abortion to outright murder.
Yes, they need to show up and be awake. I once held a couple of positions in a mainline church. Elections for leadership came around, and there was some consensus that a certain member might be a good choice for lay leader. He was well-liked, clean cut, and just such a polite young man, and his “roommate” was always so keen on helping decorate. I very calmly pointed out that in a conservative community, having a homosexual lay leader might not be the best form of outreach. The old folks were all shocked. Seriously, the guy might as well have been carrying a sign, same goes for his “roommate”. If I hadn’t spoken up (and that was all I said on the issue), they would probably have picked him.
I cannot believe anyone who stay in that church can call themselves a Christian.
What was the vote on that?
