In a civics survey, more American teenagers were able to name The Three Stooges (Larry, Moe and Curly) than the three branches of the federal government (executive, legislative and judicial).

That's hard to believe, since the Three Stooges performed their last act about a half a century ago. And there were actually five Stooges--Larry, Moe, Shemp, Curly and Curly Joe.

Popular entertainment appeals to so many people because we are bombarded by it every second of every minute.

If, say, we were given something akin to the 1976 “Bicentennial minute” which was broadcast everyday in 1976 leading up to the 4th of July, that might be a tiny tidbit of information that would help.

The main problem is that History and Civics can be boring and tedious if not presented in an exciting way. This task has only gotten more difficult with the digital and Smart phone age. It's no wonder with the changing demographics of the US population, that so many people now say, “What do I care what a bunch of dead-old white men said and did”?

Either we fight it or eat couscous with our hands along with the Muslim Marauders...
