Tea party, police clash in western Wisconsin town

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A pedestrian bridge over Interstate 90 has linked the two sides of a western Wisconsin burg for decades, providing a test of courage for bike-riding children and a symbol of home for travelers returning from Minnesota.

Over the last year, the town of Campbell’s overpass has become the front line in a Hatfield vs. McCoy free-speech clash between a tea party activist and the police chief.

The fight was spurred by last summer’s national push for tea party overpass protests calling for President Barack Obama’s impeachment. Nowhere, though, has the protest caused as much of an uproar as in Campbell.

The local tea party alleges the town and Police Chief Tim Kelemen are trying to curtail their free-speech rights by banning signs on the overpass. The chief, for his part, maintains tea party supporters responded to the ordinance by deluging his agency with complaints and threats. So, he fought back by registering one of the party’s leading activists with websites for gay dating, pornographic and federal health care.

Now Keleman could lose his job and possibly face criminal charges.

Registered another person under false pretenses? That is fraud in my book. And by a police chief? Interesting indeed.

Can Gov Walker appoint a special prosecutor?
Sounds like the LEO needs to be brought to heel.

Let me get this right: A police chief signed up someone he clashed with for Obamacare, homosexual dating and porn? And he’s still working and a sworn officer of the law? If only the Schutzstaffel had been able to utilize the Internet!

I hope he does. That's inexcusable.

-

He did this as an elected official?

We are to understand the official is alleged to have fraudulently registering a citizen for gay dating? Do I understand this correctly? While he was holding public office, no less?

If I am not misunderstanding, that is far above and beyond what he should be doing.

Prosecute.

But he was brought to his wit’s end by these hoards that wouldn’t respect his authority.

He had better.

He’s not a real cop....just another wannabe-cop. About forty percent of the nations cops need a drug-test, a mental stability test, and a financial background check to toss them out of their jobs.

So a local sheriff who claims he "used to be kind of a Republican" [yeah, right,] engages in identity theft and then commits obstruction of justice by lying to investigators, but the local prosecutors are "still considering whether to file charges."

You can bet that if the shoe were on the other foot, the Tea Party people would already be in jail awaiting charges, or on their way to prison.

The fact that these crimes were committed by a so-called "law enforcement official" makes them an order of magnitude worse. It's time for the town to dismiss this jackass, and for the DA to bring charges appropriate to the crimes.

Actually it appears he is being brought to his end by his half wits.

The story indicates that he initially lied to investigators. In the LE world a record of false statements makes you useless. He needs to be fired.

It's actually much worse than that, because the chief lied to detectives appointed by the DA to investigate the crime; he didn't tell the truth until his computer was examined. It's likely there was also spoliation of evidence there as well, and he just wasn't bright enough to cover his tracks.

In any event, he should be facing obstruction charges as well as identity theft.

“Keleman’s lawyer, Jim Birnbaum, counters that the tea party pushed his client to the edge.”

How shall we interpret this??? LOL!

Have at it!

It also makes it highly likely that this wasn’t the first time this kind of thing has happened. In the video, he sounds like one of those “this is my town” types.

Where did this take place? Campbell?

I’ve looked on three road maps for Wisconsin and the closest I can come to Campbell is a Campbellsport which is in the eastern part of the state and nowhere near I-90.

Throw the police chief in prison. Maybe then he will gain a true understanding of sodomy.
