Patients suffering from terminal illnesses are often forced to make the heart-wrenching decision to enter hospice for end of life care. The decision to enter hospice is tragic and sad enough for patients, but now they are being told they are no longer welcome at hospice facilities because of Obamacare.

Michigan’s Hospice of Holland has announced that it is no longer accepting patients.

“The biggest issue under the Affordable Care Act is…that we’re going to see cuts in reimbursement- it’s going to be at least 12 percent. We projected out what those cuts are going to do to the organization long term and we realized that in a short period of time, we’re going to be pulling money from our savings in order to keep the house open,” the Executive Director told WXMI.

He explained that had Obamacare has forced the hospice house to shut down early, instead of in 2018 or 2019.

They are saying they would have gone under eventually anyway, but I think there just employing CYA...not wanting to get overly political, or getting investigated by some gov't agency.

Alan Grayson said that the Republicans’ healthcare policy was to let people die on the streets. What an irony this is.

Hospice care has two elements, medical care and non-medical care. Typically, the patient pays out of pocket for the non-medical care. This gives them the option to raise those fees to cover their expenses.

I guess they don’t have enough paying customers.

Maybe the govt. can find a large cave on govt lands and send the old folks there with a blanket, a jug of water, and some corn meal, like the Indians used to do.For the Indians, it only took a couple of days. It's hard to live with no hope, comfort or joy.

Actually I would go if they would send me to a nice sandy beach which has some palm trees, a lot of books to read and an endless supply of white wine.

I’m with you GramsA! I’ll be on the lounge chair next to you. I’ll share my piña colada with you on Wednesday and Friday. Strawberry Margaritas on Tuesday and Thursday. My grandkids call me Jessmaa!

Yes, shut down, but he said not until 2018-2019 but for Obamacare...that’s 4+ less years of service from this Hospice specifically due to Obamacare (and given another 4 years, it’s not out of the realm of possibility they could have found other funding to stay afloat even longer).

Do they offer home hospice care? If so, will that still be available?
