Maybe he switched from whiskey to gin. Or the other way around.
Matthews is a big put on on his TV show. I’ve seen him interviewed elsewhere and he’s calm and surprisingly rational. It’s a big act for his audience there and the entire network is a trade off for G.E. to pay zero in federal taxes on their billions in profit.
I don’t think he meant to say nice things about the Tea Party. He is just voicing a warning that the Tea Party is an enemy of the liberals to be ignored at their own peril.
Brat did not get a penny of support from the National Tea Party Groups.
Chris has 2 objectives:
1. He believes supporting Tea Party candidates will make for easier Dem wins in November.
2. He needs a new approach to boost ratings.
He worked for Tip O’Neill so he can sense political trends. I don’t know if he’s being honest about the Tea Party but I’m guessing he’s reading the tea leaves and knows the Dems are in deep trouble. He doesn’t want to get swept under like all the other media lefties.
Let us not get too elated.
His condition will likely be temporary.
For a while, it seemed as if Kirstan Powers on FoxNews had also seen the light. But, she has basically returned to the Lib cause.
I doubt Matthews will wander far from the reservation before his colleagues perform an intervention and bring him back to his [liberal] senses.
Hissy Chrissy knows the liberals are not supporting him so he is testing the waters with a conservative approach. He thinks the liberals will want him back if he is doing them damage. He fails to understand that liberals eat their own more than anyone.
But maybe he has had a real change of heart? I admit - I used to watch him a lot in college in the mid-90's until I too saw the light...
It’s very simple. The left has realized from Cantor’s defeat that their previous tactic of trying to delegitimize the Tea Party will not work, because the voters that matter don’t listen to the left. So instead, they will try to suck up to the leading lights of the Tea Party and co-opt them just like they did to the Republican Party.
He isn’t saying nice things. He’s urging liberals to wake up and recognize the enemy.
Hint : Matthews is repeating Hillary’s lines and giving her cover.
Hillary defended Brat too.
People should really read a piece by “Brian Umana” in the Washingon Post (I’m on iPhone, could someone else provide the link pls?)
He’s a Liberal Dem who’s claiming partial credit for the Brat win. Two key points that we need to pay attention to:
First, how the Dems opened a big window to how they use data to drive turnout. There are now a bunch of Tea Party activists who know this and just used it in Brats winning campaign.
Second, the Dems are having second thoughts about Brat, realizing he doesn’t fit the dumb/ignorant/extremist Tea Party stereotype that they have bought into.
I think what we’re seeing with Matthews and others is the start of a shift in how they portray the Tea Party to their own benefit. Remember that their initial portrayal was to dismiss it as GOP staged AstroTurf. Then they shifted to the extremist line of attack.
Now I think they’re going to shift to portraying the Tea Party as reasonably disgusted with the GOP powers that be. Which is an accurate (if limited) portrayal.
BUT, we need to keep in mind that this is just good strategy and tactics on their part: if they can keep the Tea Party and GOPe at eachother’s throats, Democrats WILL win ... Which is why guys like Matthews are now going down this road.
He’s tired of ratings in the toilet.
use some basic political savvy folks.
chrissy didnt all of a sudden come to his senses. this “be nice to the tea party” is a lefty tactic.
the leftys want a stronger tea party so there will be an all-out political war with the GOPe. the stronger the tea party gets the weaker the GOP will be. eric cantor is the case in point.
the leftys calculate this will be a huge win for them.
The slap at Mia's (and Woody's? or Frank's?) kid was gratuitous, though. He's on when everybody's at work and nobody watches MSNBC anyway, so he may not be the worst thing they have.
