In Wake Of Cantor’s Defeat, Rand Paul Says He’s Still For Immigration Reform

In the wake of Rep. Eric Cantor’s stunning primary defeat Tuesday night, many conservatives have rushed to declare the outcome a referendum on Republican efforts to pursue immigration reform, a key wedge issue in the race. But tea party hero Sen. Rand Paul isn’t buying it. In a teleconference with Grover Norquist, a conservative champion of immigration reform, Paul told reporters Wednesday he wouldn’t back off his position on the issue. “I still am for it,” Paul said. “I say everywhere I go that I am for immigration reform.” He argued that Cantor’s loss to a little-known conservative economics professor was the result of the majority leader finding himself on the wrong side of many issues important to the grassroots, including the debt ceiling, the NSA spying program, and “corporate welfare.”

Isn't it amazing how our oligarchy is able to create "conventional" wisdom that Cantor's defeat has nothing to do with immigration. I live in Cantor's district and immigration was issue #1. I do not remember any ads about debt ceiling or NSA spying and yes Cantor's relationship with Wall Street and Big Business was an issue. Looks like Paul is not only in favor of pot legazliation but smokes the stuff too.

Rand can take a hike. The older he gets the more like his old man he becomes.

Republicans WANT to be the secondary party, enjoy all the perks but have absolutely no responsibility and still get invited to the Hamptons for chablis and brie. Out they all go!

I bet given Rand’s libertarian purity get him into a private room and he will state he is for pure open borders, a.k.a., a Suicide Libertarian.

Everybody is for “immigration reform.” The problem is that if you don’t elaborate on what you support, specifically, it’s easy for folks to think you agree with them. Randy needs to publish a 5-point schedule/timetable of those things which comprise his concept of “immigration reform.”

Same way Dems ‘parse’ and guide the narrative. Politicians making the story sound like they need it to sound and forget the truth. Is this really all that diferent than saying “it depends on what your defintion of ‘is’ is?”
I’m for reform too. Ask me how after the walls completed and those here illegally are sentg back home. I’ll be happy to share details then.
