Eric Cantor's Pollster Blames Democrats For Stunning Loss

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's loss to his little-known primary rival Tuesday night was made all the more surprising by Cantor's own pollster's confident predictions on the race.

Less than a week before Cantor's upset loss, the pollster, John McLaughlin, released a survey indicating Cantor had a 62% to 28% lead over his Republican opponent, Dave Brat. Brat would go on to win by 11% — a huge, 45-point shift that was far outside the poll's margin of error.

Some Dems may have turned out, but at best it padded the win. Democrat turnout is expected to be low this year, as last mid-term...if they can’t get motivated to turn out in November, it’s highly unlikely a huge number came out for a June primary in the opposing party.

As someone who was somewhat involved with the Brat race including placing robocalls against Cantor, the real reason Cantor lost was due to the grassroots organization that supported Brat. There were some local Tea Party folks, but there was no national help except primarily from Laura Ingraham. The battle was won in Hanover County by some very real patriots who were unhappy with Cantor for a number of reasons, including immigration and Cantor's support of the ENLIST Act and his promised "Kid's Act," which was his version of Obama's backdoor Dreamer amnesty. Of course Brat maybe one of many unintended consequences.

Their plot is only successful if Brat looses in the general election. If he wins against the Democrat in November their plot backfires and the House gets a new member of the Conservative Tea Party to work against the socialist agenda.

It just doesn’t make sense — why would Democrat voters who would find a number of Cantor’s positions to be palatable go and vote for a guy who would be much further to the right than Cantor and most, if not all, of those positions. Nope, I just think Brat out-campaigned him.

Why would the Democrats care enough to come out and vote for Brat? Usually you get a cross-over like that when you have your candidate and you’re trying to get a weaker opponent for him. But until last weekend the Democrats didn’t even have a candidate and as of yesterday I doubt there were more than a handful of them who could name him. So I highly doubt that Democrat votes for Brat were much of a factor. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see what happened to Cantor. In 2012 there were 370,000 votes cast in the general election. Yester day there were about 70,000 cast in the primary. What killed Cantor was he couldn’t motivate his base to get out and vote and Brat’s side could.

There were only 65,000 total voters or so... With democrats actively telling the loyal to show up and vote against Cantor its not hard to see 6,500 or more showing up to do so...

Democrats aren't going to work against a guy who's FOR making a few million more Mexicans into Democrats.

Lots of democrats can hardly read no less come up with that kind of strategy. Liberal elites are the smallest part of the democrat party - many democrats are poor, black, criminal, dependent, recently 'legal' or union. And yeah, liberal elites have the money and power, but their 'grassroots' stuff feels fake - paid for - AstroTurf at best...

I could be wrong but it's hard to see democrats (other than elites) having the discipline to vote like that - unless massive voter fraud was done by elite democrats. Which IS possible.
