There's a "by-election" today in England for one of the 650 seats in the House of Commons.
The election comes just two weeks after the earthquake vote that gave the United Kingdom Independence Party a first place finish for seats in the European Parliament.
UKIP candidate Roger Helmer is seen as a contender for victory for the Newark seat in the East Midlands (Nottinghamshire).
UKIP picked up 34 percent of the popular vote for a first place finish in the East Midlands for the EU elections.
Its been a frantic two weeks in British politics with a row over the leadership of the Liberal Democrats (junior partners in the government). There's been an open challenge to their leader, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
The BBC now reports that Lib Dem leaders are talking to Labour Party leaders about what they "have in common".
Even though Labour did fairly well in the local government and EU elections two weeks ago leader Ed Miliband was criticized for running a lackluster campaign.
Former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair said the UKIP issue needed to be tackled "head on".
Meanwhile the Conservative Party of Prime Minister David Cameron has thrown all kinds of "red meat" at the electorate to draw former Conservative voters back into the fold.
The Home Secretary Theresa May said the government is "trying" to limit immigration to 100-thousand per year.
May has also spoken out against "extremism" in schools, a veiled reference to the encroachment of Islam in the country.
The Cameron government has also condemned the Sudanese Islamic regime's death sentence for a pregnant woman.
The Queen made a throne speech for the government yesterday laying out a series of proposals including pension reform and a liberalization of rules for fracking energy in the UK.
A UKIP win tonight would energize it toward the General Election scheduled for May 7th, 2015.
Results expected after that time.
Putting the elites on two continents on the run!
“Conservative - David Cameron” is an oxymoron.
Can only see a victory for the Conservatives here. Albeit with a slashed majority thanks to a UKIP surge.
Lord Ashcroft’s poll put the Tories 15 points ahead at the start of the week. I reckon they will win by 5 or 6.
I hear there’s a new nickname for Cameron’s party.......
LAVATORIES
There’s a fair bit of buzz building about Theresa May becoming leader of the Conservatives should Cameron fail to win the next election. Somewhat surprisingly she did better than London Mayor Boris Johnson in an opinion poll recently.
Good luck. I hope you pull it out!
