Rolling Stones to Perform in Israel Despite Pressure From Pink Floyd Members to Cancel
Washington Post ^ | June 4 | William Booth AND Ruth Eglash June 4

Recently, two surviving founders of Pink Floyd sent the rock band equivalent of a diplomatic cable — an open letter published in Salon — to the Rolling Stones. They asked Mick Jagger and his crew to cancel their first-ever concert in Israel to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people and their struggle against occupation.

But Pink Floyd hit a wall.

The Stones not only went on with the show Wednesday night in Tel Aviv but delayed their opening by 45 minutes to allow devout Jews time to reach the concert after the end of the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, during which Orthodox Jews cannot drive, handle money — or press “Play” on the Stones’ “Exile on Main Street” album.

The Stones’ decision to ignore Roger Waters and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd underscored Israel’s growing popularity as a stop for major musical acts, and it signaled a setback for a campaign known as boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS). The movement seeks to apply international pressure on Israel to end its military occupation of the West Bank, guarantee the right of Palestinian refugees to return to homes they fled or abandoned after 1948, and grant full rights and equality to Arab Palestinian citizens of Israel.

Good for Mick and the boys. It’s Only Rock and Roll. :>}

FPF. They appear to be pretty anti-American as well and yet who has probably provided most of their wealth?

I am not surprised Roger Waters has said such things - but Nick Mason is a drummer and as we know drummers don’t think too deeply about these things (Yes I play drums) so he must have been lead astray by the Evil Mr. Waters! How long has it been since Waters was an actual part of Pink Floyd - even they couldn’t stand him!

Waters is a political hypocrite and coward that turned a blind eye to Obama’s war activity.

I can easily imagine how Mick Jagger reacted to the spectacle of being publicly lectured by former members of Pink Floyd (not even touring any more) on where the Rolling Stones (who were touring the world while PF was still hauling their equipment in cars and vans) should hold their concerts. :-)

There is a story about John Popper (harmonica - blues traveler) sending a note to Mick Jagger asking to sit in on one of their concerts. Popper is incredible on the harmonica and world-class. However Mick Jagger plays harmonica also and (as we know) has a huge ego. Jagger supposedly said “what? dueling harmonicas. F him!”

It’s one thing to say you are anti-Israel, but not anti-Semitic, but when you have a giant pig with a Star of David on it, it doesn’t fly.

Open Nazi? Who are you talking about?
Roger Waters is a socialist since way back. David Gilmore and Nick Mason too, apparently. That leaves the late Richard Wright. Also Sid Barrett from the early days (dead also). So who?

“... in Israel to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people ...”

Note the Progressive (aka communist) keyword “solidarity” ... a dead giveaway what you are dealing with.

Those who say they are anti-Israel but not anti-Semitic are usually the latter as well IMO.

In our universities & in the Muslim dominated cities of Europe, it’s OK to be a Nazi again. As long as you are pro-Hamas.

What do you think Nazi’s were or where the word came from?

National socialist.

Specifically: National Socialist German Workers’ Party.
