Ann B. Davis, aka Alice from The Brady Bunch, passed away this past weekend. This morning, MSNBC took a moment to remember her by showing a picture of someone else:

No sense of even the most basic ENTERTAINMENT and pop culture history of the last 50 years...think how badly they screw up GEOPOLITICAL and WORLD history....
I think you have to prove that you’re retarded, your mother was a drug addict or you have some serious brain defect to get into journalism, education, political science, social work or ______(fill-in-the-blank) studies programs these days.
They probably googled "Alice Brady Bunch" and picked what they thought was the best photo.
Oops.
A useful tool, search engines like Google and Bing have become MASTERS. This is a dangerous development because it creates the illusion of knowledge—and keeps people from developing real THINKING skills.
In every case this is a dangerous thing, but in journalism where information is spread over a wide area to sometimes many people, it can be particularly harmful.
A relatively simple news item, the passing of a good woman, they can’t even get this right?
I’ll bet that surprised their seven viewers.
I doubt that many journalists have ever watched Brady Bunch. None of the kids were gay, the parents were clearly male and female, and the family was worth watching because they were normal.
Did the jerks even acknowledge the mistake?
God, how I miss those old shows. I was young, but I remember, Dobie Gillis, Father KNows Best and My Three Sons. Fury, The Donna Reed Show, Westward Ho, Whirlybirds.
I can’t believe they are still in my memory bank.
Remember Dobie Gillis? Like a TV ARchie Comics.
I think it was Monday or Tuesday, you’d have Andy Griffith, then Donna Reed, then Ozzie and Harriet. Beaver in there somewhere too.
You know even Archie comics has become perverted, right? A few years back they introduced a homosexual to the teens. Sick.
My problem with the Brady Bunch was knowing that the “dad” would rather be kissing any one of the boys instead of his pretty wife. Couldn’t get past that.
Competence has never been MSNBC’s strong suit. You could easily do a 5 hour gag reel on their blunders.
I never understood this need to get something out quick, as opposed to taking a few hours and doing an obituary right.
Whenever there is a notable death, I quickly go to their Wikipedia article but I'm never able to beat them. Their death is already noted there. It's a little creepy. It's as if every celebrity has a dedicated Wikipedia editor with a finger poised over the "post" button.
I think they’re just too LAZY to do research on whatever subject they’re assigned to cover.
The White House cleared the research and ok’d the references. Whites all look alike.
They were tucked in the Bergdahl file.

Anne B. Davis also played Fritzie on the Bob Cummings Show aka “Love That Bob”
I worked for years at a major news organization. I worked my way up, starting as a typist, to a fact checker, to writing and updating obituaries like you mentioned, before I became a general assignment reporter.
I actually loved doing research and updating those obits.
However, everything was always checked by one other person to makes sure nothing like this happened.

I did that just now, every pic was of the right lady, apparently they go out of their way to be stupid morons.
I think she was called Schultzy.... :-)
Yeah, seems I heard about that. His name was Moose, right?
While Davis wasn’t cast as Alice in the ‘95 Brady Bunch movie, she did a cameo as a trucker. (Mantel, the actress who did the Alice role in that film, is apparently a Nader lefty from Vermont*, acc to Wikipedia)

*—”She has worked in documentary and reality television as a writer/producer on such shows as the Emmy Award winning The Osbournes and Michael Moore’s The Awful Truth.”
