Like any other 3rd world country, the underground economy continues to expand.

Yes a good number of these folks are home watching Springer and Maury, but a lot are also working off the books.

Just last year, American imports from China were 440 billion.

Last year, American exports to China were 122 billion.

We are running a massive trade deficit with China. China is now the second-largest economy in the entire world.

China is still growing, quickly.

RE: 1 in 6 American Men Between Ages 25-54 Are Not Working

That’s 16.6% unemployment right there. Yet our official rate is 6.3%.

I think it’s high time we do away with the current way of presenting unemployment and use a different measure to include those who are REALLY NOT WORKING and NOT EVEN LOOKING.

That would give us a better picture of how dire or how good the economy really is.

Re: “1 in 6 American Men Between Ages 25-54 Are Not Working”

Most of the men who have government jobs are not working, either.

Americans want more money for less work...and there are some jobs they won't do.
Example: SOMEone has to clean toilets. What American restaurant owner will pay MORE for an American cleaner when he can get the same work done for a FRACTION of the cost?

Foreign labor has been picking California fruits and vegetables for EONS. Remember the braceros?

For gringolandia it's always ALL about money. Capitalism has some down side sometimes.

However, I wouldn't live ANYwhere else on this planet!

So why are we bringing in 1.1 million LEGAL IMMIGRANTS every year and 650,000 guest workers annually?

The Gang of 8 bill will triple legal immigration over the next decade and double the guest worker program to 1.4 million a year. We don't have a shortage of labor, we have a shortage of jobs.

A staggering 1 in 8 such men are not in the labor force at all
And as such, they are not part of the unemployment rate reported by the government. Not in the labor force? Then you aren't unemployed.

This has been a long time in coming, but has been accelerated under Obama. I know there are a lot of unemployed men looking for work and who want to work. But our culture has conditioned a lot of others to not care about working anymore. It started witht ever-expanding Welfare State giving men the ability to live while not working. Then the shame associated with not trying to find work was eliminated — in the 50s and 60s, if you were a man, you had to work and you tried your hardest to find a job. Now, not so much. A lot of men no longer view it as their place to earn a living and think its OK to sit on their asses basically doing nothing.

The long-planned Fundamental Transformation, now in process of consummation, depends in part on altering the cultural expectation of citizens becoming self-supporting through gainful work to an attitude of dependency on the socialist bureaucracy.

If you add-in the government employees in that age range, that % would be a lot higher.

1 in 6 American Men Between Ages 25-54 Are Not Working

During my years in Corporate America, about 4 in 6 of my co-workers were not working. :)

These are powerful statistics to rebut the notion that the workforce is declining due to retirements. These young men ain’t retired!
