When the commissioner decides that private behavior is detremental to the best interests of the association.

So the NBA can wiretap its owners? If not, Sterling can argue selective enforcement.

You should read the NBA constitution.

You should cite the NBA constitution.

Nonsense. The NBA didn't record Sterling, his pet bimbo did. She released the tape to the media and that's where the NBA got it from, same place as everyone else. If the tape was done illegally then that's a matter for the LAPD. But to say the NBA acted illegally by using a recording that was in the public domain is ridiculous.

So if somebody illegally obtained all your conversations and videotaped you in your home, you would be OK with it being in the public domain?

Nope. I'd be going to the police and filing charges against the person who did the illegal taping. So why hasn't Sterling done that?

According to you, all your private information would be in the public domain whether you go to the police or not.

And what can I do about it except go after the person who performed the illegal act? Something Sterling hasn't done. Why?

I don't think Sterling will win. He weakens his own case by not pressing charges against his bimbo for recording him without his knowledge. If, in fact, she did so.

you make some very good points.

here’s a thought outside the box.

lets begin with the premise that sterling is not senile or stupid.

is it possible that he concocted this whole thing himself ?

My honest opinion? I think Sterling has been seen by the other owners as an embarassment to the NBA for years. His team was a joke for decades and he's a boorish and unlikable person. The players hate him because he's cheap, and I think that most of the other owners were looking for an excuse, any excuse, to drop the hammer on him. David Stern never had the nerve to because I think he feared the litigation that would certainly have followed. Silver, being new as commissioner and also needing a way to demonstrate his firm leadership ability, wasn't so cautious and when Sterling gave him an excuse he jumped at the chance to get rid of the him.

im not so sure.

i keep coming back to the fact that this guy just isn’t stupid and i’m betting there is a whole lot more to this whole thing.

as far as the whole NBA (players, owners, etc.) hating him and wanting him gone, what did the NAACP miss when they were going to give him a major award ? just sayin.

Money. Sterling will toss $10K or $15K at organizations just to get recognition...then take out ads in newspapers crowing about it. ESPN the Magazine did an article on Sterling about 5 years ago. Take a look and you'll see why the NBA has viewed him as an embarassment for years. Link
