PORTLAND (CNN) A boil water order has been issued for the entire city of Portland.
In three separate repeat water samples from May 20 to May 23, the presence of total coliform and E. coli was confirmed in routine drinking water.
Until further notice, all Portland Water Bureau customers and those in the affected areas should boil all tap water used for drinking, food prep, tooth brushing and ice for at least one minute.
Any ice or beverages prepared with unboiled tap water on or after May 20 should be thrown out.
The water samples that tested positive for bacteria were collected at Mt. Tabor Reservoirs 1 and 5, as well as the Southeast 2nd Avenue and Salmon Street water sampling station.
Those reservoirs have been taken offline.
Along with Portland Water Bureau customers, other local water providers also fall under the boil water notice. They are: Burlington Water District, City of Gresham (North of I-84), Lake Grove Water District, Lorna Portland Water, Palatine Hill Water District, Rockwood Water District, Tigard Water Service Area (including Durham, King City and Bull Mountain), Valley View Water District and West Slope Water District.

I’d REALLY hate to think that a gaggle of vile mooselim terrorists might be capable of purposefully FOULING the water
Not good.
OK—who peed in the reservoir THIS time?
So they have been using contaminated water for three days and they are only now getting the boil order out?
Relax, Maine.
Lots of people from around here are their way to Portland (OR) for the holiday. Some might turn back?
For Oregon ping list.
I'd hate to think anyone was, myself, but with multiple reservoirs fouled it could be a deliberate act(s).
And yet, nobody pays attention. Kinda like the electrical substation in CA that had some, uh, vandalism done to it. With rifles and disabled comm lines. Meh! Nothing to see here, move along.
Can someone change the title to add Oregon so we don’t spread fear in the populations of Portland Connecticut and Portland Pennsylvania.
Thanks, Steven from Portland, Maine
Let’s just hope that whomever/whatever pooped in the reservoir had not kissed a camel first.
Or Portland Maine!
A # hash tag would solve everything.
Crapping in the well to poison the population is an historic bioterrorist tactic used for centuries.
Please put Oregon in the title please.
I think this is one of those issues where you will only get lip service about it until a really bad disaster happens. Nobody wants to spend all the money to secure every facility unless there is such a public outcry they can’t avoid it.
Lib distopia.
Commissioner Nick Fish, who oversees both the water and sewer bureaus, said the city is currently reviewing its video to see whether the May contamination (dating back to May 20) was a direct result of human fecal matter. "We don't have any incriminating evidence," Fish said.
He said the fecal mater could be introduced by a bird or another animal but he didn't want to speculate as to its source.
So, it could have been contaminated by natural causes.
How do you keep birds from pooping in the water?
