Actor Michael Jace, best known for playing a gay cop on the FX series 'The Shield,' was charged by police with murder Tuesday in the shooting death of his wife, April, in their Los Angeles home.
"I shot my wife," Jace told police after calling 911 Monday night, TMZ reported. He stayed on the line until police arrived, according to reports.
April Jace, 40, was found dead in their south Los Angeles home at about 8:30 p.m. by police and medics who responded, Los Angeles Police Detective Lyman Doster said. Jace, 51, who had small roles in "Forrest Gump" and the 2009 film "State of Play," starring Russell Crowe, was taken to LA's 77th Precinct for questioning and was being held on $1 million bail.
LAPD officials listed the motive as simply domestic violence. It was Jace's second marriage, and the couple had been married nine years. LAPD Lt. John Jenal told the Los Angeles Daily News two children were present in the home at the time of the shooting. They were in protective custody this morning, he said.
"He was a very cool guy, and always very cordial," said Chester Taylor, a 72-year-old retired engineer who lives across the street from the crime scene.
Taylor said Jace and his wife moved into the neighborhood about five years ago, and that he frequently saw the 6-4 actor walking his German Shepherd. Taylor said he recognized his new neighbor from "The Shield."
"I knew he had a resume, but I didn't bother him about it," Taylor said. "He and his wife just seemed like a nice couple.

I guess he was gay in real life too. That explains why he shot his wife.
I don’t follow. How does being homosexual explain this?
A man with two kids shoots his wife in a domestic violence incident and you think he did so because he’s gay?
Homosexuals are very violent people. Ask Col. Hogan (Bob Crane) for details.
He was not gay in real life (that anyone knows). He played a gay cop on The Shield, one of the best shows ever broadcast on television.
Here’s a list of his other work:

R Lee Ermey played a gay football coach.
No, it doesn’t.
Whoops. Didn’t notice you were replying to thetallguy when you were asking about what it has to do with being gay...
Need more coffee...
I’ve never heard of the guy and I haven’t watched the show, but I read on an earlier thread he played a homo who found God, went straight, and got married.
He be daid, Jim................
I didn’t know homosexuals were violent people. It’s not surprising - I just didn’t know.
Please don’t tell me Bob Crane was homo/bisexual. To my knowledge his murder was never solved, although it does seem this sidekick had the opportunity and was quite jealous of how Crane always got the ‘better looking girl’ when they went out chasing skirts at night.
Was his friend (who I understand BC started to distance himself from toward the end) gay?
More likely booze. That’s where almost all DV starts.
Everyone's gay.
His character (Julian, IIRC) was already a strong Christian, but he had certain urges that got the better of him on a few occasions. He did get married, his wife found out, and they worked it out and moved on.
I got the impression the show meant for the subplot to continue, but they just kind of dropped it after a while.
What else can I say?
Or he goes, Guns n Roses:
I used to love her
But I had to kill her
I had to put her
Six feet under
And I can still hear her complain.
What else could I write. I don’t have the right.
