Well, there have been several cases where Christians have been murdered or had their churches burned down by Hindu radicals in India. In fact, most crimes against them will be committed by Hindus, since Muslims live in regions with low Christian populations anyway.

This being said, the Congress Party was doing little to protect them either. And they were horrendously corrupt, dragging the country into a ditch.

It’s a cause for concern, but I think we should perhaps retain a focus on the ME, where the highest levels of Christian persecution outside of North Korea exist. Syria in particular. It seems Egypt is calming down now.
Persecution against Christians in India pales in comparison to what goes on in neighboring Pakistan.

If you live in India, best to be a Hindu from now on.

That is EXACTLY what the congregations and brethren I serve have told me. They have asked for urgent prayers for safety as mob violence against Christians may get a green light from Modi's government itself.

One of Modi's officials stated on Television while I was there last month - that anyone who is not Hindu "should get out of India now, go to Pakistan or somewhere else". There is real fear spreading among Christians in India about what may get much worse, for Christians are already considered untouchable, Dalit and Adhi Andrha and have suffered institutionalized persecution for decades.

Now they fear it will get worse.

Sure, but as one who has Christian relatives in India I can't be all that aloof to developments in that country.

The BJP claims to support equality for the dalits

Empty campaign rhetoric and the low castes know this.

Modi and his party are RADICAL HINDUs. They want to "return India to pure Hindusim" and rid India of "foreign religions".

India runs and operates on the Hindu Caste system. Dalits are untouchable and outside the main castes - and they are already mistreated, and that mistreatment never subsided since Ghandi - even though some low castes have been given 'seats' in Parliament.

Thanks (I guess) for your confirmation of my fears.

It really disappoints me to see all the cheering "Reagan in India" comments occurring on this site.

I understand, and your relatives will be in my prayers. Some regions are safer than others, so perhaps they might consider moving if the tension heightens.

Mohammed was a Child Rapist and Islam is a Totalitarian Death Cult.

Hinduism is pretty benign in comparison.

Not inside India. Hinduism is some ways is actually far more insidious than Islam is if you are a Christian or a Dalit in India.

I expect the “Modi is a Gentle Dove Resting Weightlessly upon a Lotus Flower” posters from yesterday to show up here in a few hours.

Modi may be good for business and adopt a more Capitalist approach to his economy - but understand, ONLY THE VAISHYA HIGH CASTES ARE ALLOWED TO OWN AND RUN BUSINESSES.

If you are below that caste - economic prosperity is denied you. Heck, just trying to educate Christians in vocational trades meets with massive opposition from Hindu leaders who DO NOT WANT low castes to advance.

When you are born low caste - YOU STAY LOW CASTE - the entirety of Indian Society will ensure that happens. This I have seen, AND experienced firsthand while living in the slums and areas of SE India.

Persecution against Christians anywhere is a travesty, whether its India, China, or the United States. But it is logical to focus on the areas most at risk as a priority. Despite sporadic persecution, the church in India is growing, especially among the Dalit caste.

There actually have been Christians murdered by Hindus, but generally there were other causes (land disputes, political affairs, etc.). Generally, Christians are okay, and there are some Christian areas, such as Goa, where there is no problem at all.

A scholar once told me that Hinduism was like the Roman religion before Christianity...lots of gods, but basically everybody had a dim concept of one God, and they were used to the idea of God visiting the world (not necessarily the way that was appropriate, LOL, but they did think in terms of creation and the Creator). The reason the Romans adapted so readily to Christianity was because they could understand it even based on their paganism, and I think this will eventually be the same with Hinduism.

I don’t think this new president is interested in imposing Hinduism. Obviously, neither he nor anybody else in the Hindu majority want Muslims to destroy their world, but I think he wants a society where people just live and do what they’re supposed to do, make India prosperous, and the Muslims can’t ruin it for everybody else.

Much like every Republican President is a racist and a fascist.

Much like the Tea Party are groups of terrorist.

I have seen what Modi did as Chief Minister of Gujarat.

I will continue to see what he does as Prime Minister of India.

Does that -- from #22 -- sound like 'live and let live' to you?

there are some Christian areas, such as Goa, where there is no problem at all

Other than the murder of a Catholic priest and desecrations.

PARISH PRIEST MURDERED AT MACASANA March 18.: In a gruesome act of murder some natives from UP or Hyderabad residing at the Church residential premises are suspected to have murdered the Parish Priest of St. Francis Church, Macazana Salcete Goa, Fr. Eusebio Serrao a native of Chinchinim Salcete Goa last night on 17/03/2006. This morning residents were shocked to hear of the tragic news and rushed to the Church.

The Archbishop of Goa and Daman also rushed to the scene of the incident when this writer made frantic calls for information to confirm the news at the Paco Patriacal Altinho Panaji on +91 0832 2422652. Later after a teletalk with an individual from the Parish Church on +91 0832 2786685 it was confirned that Fr. Serrao was indeed brutally murdered, and his body mutiliated. Police investigations are on. On an earlier ocassion according to unconfirmed reports the priest was similarly tied but was later released.

Incidentally the Church has sounded a warning to the Goa Government to take serious note of Church burgalaries and vandalisation of crosses etc. The Comba Margao cross vandalisation on Holi Day being the latest.

I think the new president may have the moral authority to change that. Theoretically, it’s illegal in India and they actually have “affirmative action” programs for lower castes. But in practice, everybody knows these people are “affirmative action.”

I had a long train ride once with an Indian who told me about his trials and tribulations trying to get a job in the government or university - because many positions were reserved for untouchables or other lower castes. There were not enough of them to go around, so to speak, so every one of them who applied got hired. And one of the reasons for the Indian diaspora is that a lot of jobs that competent higher caste people could have gotten were reserved to the lower castes.

Vocational trades may be a different thing, and there’s probably a lot of opposition simply because you have to think of the castes as giant labor unions...for example, Patels run hotels...and they don’t want anybody cutting in on the action.

Please add Killing of Hindu priests in Orrisa , Nagaland by Christians.
Lotting Hindu temples all over India.

Please don’t be selective.

Modi is Ted Cruz of India. He is as dangerous as Tea Party, Ted Cruz etc.
