Sen. Ted Cruz says Rick Perry has been an effective leader, but dismissed the idea that Perry is responsible for a booming economy that has created more than 1 million jobs since hes been governor. Perry has traveled the country talking about the states economic success under his tenure as he considers another bid for the presidency. Cruz has also traveled to early primary states that will help decide the GOP nominee in 2016.
Cruz talks about job creation in Texas (Wayne Slater)
Asked Friday about Perrys job-creation message, Cruz said hes been a good governor. But he added, There isnt a politician in this country whos responsible for the economic growth we have. The economic growth has come from the private sector, its come from entrepreneurs. Nothing drives me crazier than politicians who run around talking about the jobs theyve created. Politicians are very good at killing jobs, but they dont create jobs.
Both Perry and Cruz would appeal to many of the same conservative GOP voters should they both enter the race for the White House. The states record of job creation while Perry has been governor is seen as his strongest selling point should be make another run. Perry is bullish telling other states that his low-tax, low-regulation approach as governor since 2000
....
Cruz said Perry and the Texas Legislature deserve credit for enacting laws that create an environment that allow small businesses to prosper and flourish. For not screwing up. And said the federal government would do well to follow the economic policies of Texas. But we should all be very clear. The jobs are not created by politicians. They are created by the private sector.

Government just needs to get out of the way, and the jobs will be created.

Well, that’s true, government doesn’t create jobs. But what government can do is create an environmental favorable to the private sector and to jobs. We have a very business-hostile Federal government now, and certain states, such as California, have hostile governments. And guess where businesses are going: Texas.
I may be missing something, but who’s going to vote for Cruz if he says that government doesn’t help this effort?

Cruz is right, but it’s not like a governor doesn’t have an effect. I’m not that familiar with Perry’s record, but if he’s keeping taxation and regulation in check, then he’s doing something that helps. This looks like an attempt to drive a wedge where one need not be. The headline isn’t exactly accurate. Cruz did not call out Rick Perry.

Well, it's not like the Dallas News is the most honest and objective of newspapers.

Cruz is right—if government doesn’t punish business (taxes, regulations, etc.), and leaves it alone, businesses will flourish and jobs will be created.
The flip side is what Mike Lee is saying—government shouldn’t get involved in “helping” businesses (Solyndra and other crony capitalism beneficiaries) by playing favorites. There are always strings attached and the free marketplace, taxpayers, and consumers are the losers.
Run, Ted, run!

Ted Cruz should know that both the politicians and the private sector creates jobs. The politician’s responsibility is to create an environment where the private sector can survive unhampered. In otherwords get out of the way.
