It might not be the towering height of liberal hypocrisy to watch the same people who savaged Bob Dole and John McCain as doddering old farts with one foot in the grave squeal in outrage when Karl Rove asks about Hillary Clinton’s health, but it’s definitely far up the north slope of that hypocrisy mountain.
I gather everyone on the Left has their amnesia circuits engaged, and is obediently forgetting the way snotty Obama operatives mocked McCain for the injuries he sustained as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Apparently they’re also forgetting how Republican candidates tend to be far more open about their medical histories than Democrats. If Rove’s remarks were intended to lead Hillary supporters onto thin ice – and maybe trick them into getting agitated about something that ultimately leads back to the Benghazi hearings – he succeeded brilliantly.
Rove is disputing the headline-grabbing assertion by the New York Post that he explicitly suggested Hillary Clinton might have brain damage, but he definitely did ask some questions about her health… and evidently this is not permitted when speaking of left-wing royalty. You can cast all the aspersions on Republicans of a certain age that you want, but the majestic potentates of the Democrat Party are to be regarded as immortal.

The official diagnosis was a blood clot. Rove told the conference near LA Thursday, “Thirty days in the hospital? And when she reappears, she’s wearing glasses that are only for people who have traumatic brain injury? We need to know what’s up with that.”
Rove repeated the claim a number of times to the audience. Clinton’s rep said, “Please assure Dr. Rove she’s 100 percent.”
Despite Rove’s claims, then-Secretary of State Clinton was discharged from New York Presbyterian Hospital after spending three days undergoing treatment for a potentially life-threatening blood clot.
She was seen walking out of the Manhattan hospital for another series of tests but returned to the hospital shortly thereafter. She needed more tests related to her condition, the AP reported, citing unnamed officials.
Clinton, weakened by a stomach virus, fell in her Washington, DC, home in December 2012 and sustained a concussion. Her doctors said a blood clot had formed behind her right ear in the space between her brain and skull.
A spokesperson for Clinton added, “Karl Rove has deceived the country for years, but there are no words for this level of lying.”
As for her health, “She is 100 percent. Period.”
And if you can’t trust a spokesman for two of the most accomplished liars in American history, Bill and Hillary Clinton, who can you trust? No need to bother with any of those tedious old medical records, which Republican candidates tend to produce immediately and voluntarily.
As the Post noted, Rove was incorrect about how long Mrs. Clinton was in the hospital – three days, not thirty, although her health scare did keep her on the sidelines for a while, causing her to avoid some rather unpleasant hearings about Benghazi. He’s reading quite a bit into her choice of eyewear. Let us take it as a given that a good deal of what Karl Rove says is calibrated to generate media coverage of Karl Rove.
But the hysterical shrieking about how completely out-of-line Rove was to inquire about the health of someone who did indeed profess to be dealing with a potentially dangerous blood clot in her head is way over the top. It would be absurd even if the people yelling at Rove weren’t crossing their fingers and hoping we don’t remember the things Democrats have said about the health of Republican candidates. In 2016, Hillary Clinton will be only a couple of years younger than John McCain was when he sought the presidency. The people who treated him like a walking fossil have absolutely zero credibility to declare Hillary Clinton’s health completely off-limits. Given the importance of the youth vote to Democrats, it is perhaps unsurprising that they’d be hyper-sensitive about the topic, but there is no reason to respect their sensitivities.
As for whether asking health-related questions about a female candidate is sexist, I suggest running that argument by Sarah Palin. Give her a couple of minutes to stop laughing before transcribing her answer.
Why shouldn’t voters be concerned with the health of anyone who aspires to a high-stress job like the presidency? Everyone who runs should be ready to hand over a full set of medical documentation, very early in the nomination process. And if everything checks out, that should be the end of it.
If there were to be a contest between McCain and Hillary for biggest moron. I am not sure who would win... but I would vote McCain!
