Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel gave his support to embattled Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki on Sunday as he has come under scrutiny over allegations of deadly delays in health care treatment for veterans.
While Hagel said accountability was paramount, the potential for a backlog treating returning veterans should have been seen.
I dont think it just started with General Shinsekis term at the VA, this is something that should have been looked at years and years ago, so yes, we missed it, Hagel said on ABC This Week.
Shinseki will testify next Thursday before the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs.
Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates also said Sunday more needs to be done immediately to make sure veterans are getting the help they need.
We can't wait for a congressional investigation and findings and so on. This needs immediate action, said Gates on CBS Face the Nation. And I'm hopeful that Secretary Shinseki will take that action. And then, as I said, hold people accountable.(continued)

The VA does not care about Veterans. Their job is to placate the veterans and minimize costs.
Much of the disability backlog is because O’Bummer changed the requirements that a soldier no longer needed to be in a combat zone to experience PTSD. So many of the sexual harassment claims became PTSD claims flooding the system.

My wife is an MD, and has worked for the VA for over twenty years. The medical staff really cares about the vets. But the working conditions are such that MD’s are leaving at a higher rate than ever and many years of pay freezes are making it difficult to get new Dr’s to join. Bottom line, they are way under staffed.
Hence my comment the VA doesn’t care. Individuals within the system do care but they cannot change the system.

Hagel is so predictable...aligning himself with a guy who voted PRESENT 162 times....
I waiting for China to invade Taiwan any day! They are so afraid of us...

Where do you think FUBO got Obamacare from? The RATs only care about themselves. If a bunch of vets have to die to “help” them make their “numbers,” TS. Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, allee sammee!
I’d like to know if Hagel was one of Obama’s butt buddies in the Senate. There’s quite a bit wrong with him, including his desire to have transgenders in the military. Would not be surprised for him to come out of the closet in an autobiography after he leaves DoD.
This sounds like more of the Cloward-Piven ANARCHY.
If in fact this practice does date back years, they didn’t “miss” it; they intentionally ignored it.
If "General" Shinseki had any leadership skills,
he would have been on a plane to Phoenix the next day.
But of course...everything is W.’s fault. That has been clear from day one
I can see why they “missed it” with all the worrying going on down at the Pentagon with the “openly gay” homosexuals and “transgenders” and all. That stuff is much more titillating than a bunch of wounded warriors.
FIVE YEARS THREE MONTHS TWENTY-ONE DAYS!
All he can say is it is George Bush’s fault. His answer is doubly damning, first he is still blaming Bush first, and second, after five plus years he still doesn’t know that anything is wrong. Please, tell me he has only been sec-def for a year. If all the assets of every poster here were used to buy hagel some clues he would still be a dumb bast@rd.
Active Duty/Retiree ping.
Administration of liars, islamists, hangers-on...and communists too stupid to see that they’d lose their heads under sharia.
homosexualists too.
Six years into Obama’s wonderful, precedent- setting Transform Amerika administration and they’re still trying to blame Bush ?????!!!!!!!?????? This is ridiculous. They’re scapegoating the man like they do the Jews. It’s incredibly unfair to him. And it distorts our public discourse terribly in this country. Bush may not have walked on water all the time, but someone really needs to tell the Obama people to knock off always trying to crucify him for things that have been Obama’s responsibility for five or six years already.
