President Obama’s science adviser, John Holdren, thinks we should change the name of “climate change,” which was formerly known as “global warming,” to ”global climate disruption.” Via ScienceInsider:
First there was “global warming.” Then many researchers suggested “climate change” was a better term. Now, White House science adviser John Holdren is renewing his call for a new nomenclature to describe the end result of dumping vast quantities of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into Earth’s atmosphere: “global climate disruption.”
“I’ve always thought that the phrase ‘global warming’ was something of a misnomer because it suggests that the phenomenon is something that is uniform around the world, that it’s all about temperature, and that it’s gradual,” Holdren said yesterday at the annual AAAS Forum on Science and Technology Policy in Washington, D.C. (AAAS publishes ScienceInsider.) “What could be wrong with that?”
Instead, he said, “we should call it ‘global climate disruption.’ Although the rising average global surface temperature is an indicator of the degree of disruption that we have imposed on the global climate system, what’s actually happening involves changes in circulation patterns, changes in precipitation patterns, and changes in extremes. And those are very different in different places.”
Holdren has made similar calls before, apparently with limited effect on the public’s vocabulary. This time, the remarks came in the context of a brief preview Holdren gave of a new climate report that the Obama administration is scheduled to release next week. The document will, in part, spell out the potential disruptions the United States faces as a result of a changing climate, perhaps giving Holdren’s idea some currency.
Why not just defend “global warming?” In Holdren’s own definition of “global climate disruption” above, he cites “rising average global surface temperature.” Um, that’s called “global warming.” And the reason for the name change isn’t to clear up any “misnomers,” it’s an attempt to find language that will finally convince voters that the president’s environmental policies should be enacted.
Well, to quote President Obama from 2008, “You know, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.”
Environmental loons can call warming hysteria and its associated apocalyptic predictions whatever they want. But it’s still a pig.

Yep, the term “global climate disruption” can mean whatever the government wants it to mean, unlike the term “global warming” which only signifies warming and when people point this glaring inconsistent fluctuation, the people who want to transfer wealth from one country to the next have no answers. But global climate disruption, well now, that can be an answer to any and all climate questions, and will still sit well with the low information voter.
Its called "weather"!!!!
I like this because Global Climate Disruption (GCD) is a cause, not an effect. Prove it’s disrupted and not working according to design.
Is a storm GCD? Nope. It’s a storm. Once you call it GCD you are saying something caused it. OK, what caused it and where is your proof?
Not anymore. We have renamed it to GLOBAL CLIMATE “DISTRACTION”

Great observation. This is more of what it's always been - marketing.

But unfortunately calling it “disruption” is an effective technique. People’s memory is notoriously poor so the leftists simply blame any unusual weather on CO2. They have people writing opinion pieces that get published by the left-wing media (but that’s redundant) making this argument. My local rag ran an editorial blaming the California drought on C02.
We all know that cold or hot weather or hurricanes or tornadoes gets blamed on CO2. People do not remember prior hot or cold spells and think the latest is “the worst that has ever happened.” Also, due to urban heat island effects temperatures in the places where most people and especially Democrats live are trending up so weather shows on TV always have some record high temperatures to report.
So this is an effective strategy but luckily the changes are not that bad so the sheeples natural inertia has been stymieing the climate campaigners.
The name for this enormous government power grab is:
Climate control, as in, more government control over our lives.

What hasn’t changed is that — as with “climate change” — the only “global disruption” these fools care about is “warming”. All other forms of “climate change” and “global disruption” run counter to their totalitarian ideology.
Following their line of reasoning in renaming things perhaps we should rename the democrat party "The American Rights Abolition Party" or The National Economy Disruption Party".
There’s a reason they waited until May to release this.
Global warming theory is quite clever, from the perspective of a salesman trying to separate a fool from his/her money. They’ve successfully convinced a significant population that a normally occurring phenomenon (changing climate) is in fact not normal and that the only way to fix it is to give a bunch of bureaucrats and corportists money. This is all really a lesson in the powers of a well funded, politically connected marketing campaign.
