Bennett: ‘We’ll annex Area C and offer the Palestinians autonomy on steroids’

Israel will gradually annex Area C of the West Bank now that the negotiations with the Palestinians have failed, Economic Minister Naftali Bennett said on Tuesday afternoon.

“We will be gradually attempting to apply Israeli law on Israeli controlled areas of Judea and Samaria,” Bennett told reporters as he stood in the Gush Etzion settlement of Neveh Daniel and looked out at the surrounding green and brown hilltops.

Bennett blamed the break down of the talks on the unity deal between Fatah and Hamas.

“The cabinet has taken a unanimous decision not to negotiate with a government that includes Hamas,” Bennett said. “I have heard voices from over the ocean, including Europe that call on us to negotiate with this kind of government,” he said.

“It is like asking the United States to negotiate with a government that includes al-Qaida. It won’t happen,” he said.

He spoke exactly on the day that the nine-month period of negotiations with the Palestinians officially ended. The talks themselves broke down last week.

“The era of Oslo is over and we are entering a new era of realism. That means we invest massively in joint infrastructure for Arabs and Jews in Judea and Samaria,” Bennett said.

“We provide the Palestinians with autonomy on steroids,” he said in reference to Areas A and B of the West Bank, which are now under the civil control of the Palestinian Authority.

Bennett explained that Palestinians in these areas, “will govern themselves, we have no desire to control them.”

In the past Bennett has said that Palestinians living in Area C of the West Bank should be given Israeli citizenship.

While in Gush Etzion, he said, he visited places where Palestinians and Israelis work together in joint businesses.

“That is the future, coexistence, economic peace and then gradually it will create real peace,” Bennett said.

I expected more from MK Bennett. Just look at the map of the West Bank: is he really planning to leave Bethlehem (birthplace of King David), Hebron (Cave of the Patriarchs) and Jerico (first city conquered by the Israelites) in the hands of the Palestinians? Please, tell me that I am having a nightmare and wake me up!

Of course that would make a joke out of the Palestinian state... is that the plan all along?

Annex (all of) Judea and Samaria now!

200 million arabs in the middle east.

Only 16 million enjoy freedom of religion, and freedom of speech.

They all live in Israel.

Of course that won't happen.

Instead, the Ø pres_dent and his regime will just make sure to funnel plenty of weapons to al-Qaida, skipping over any silly negotiations.

lsrael started with nothing in 1048, no irrigation no mechanized farming, barren land, no industry, no University system.

Israelis made great strides thru hard work, innovation, reinvesting in themselves and their economy. Even now they are an Oil country sell an ever increasing oil and gas exports with help of Cypress.

On the Other hand Palestinian Arabs has taken handouts , then used the money to line their foreign secret accounts and on weapons to kill Israelis. They even pay the families of terrorists in jail. No industry, they rely on Israel for water, electricity, and medical care.

The two people are diametrically different. The PA didn’t have any Jewish murderers to trade for Palestinian murderers
because like Christians, Jews don’t attack first, they are on defense stopping attackers, and building fences to keep them out of Israel.

It can take place. Will it? Biblically significant places have a life of their own, quite independent of political crap.

Yes, but Joel described the punishment for those who divided up the land. I would imagine it will be more so if such significant places are given up. Heaven forbid that anything should be done to Jerusalem!

Of course we wouldn’t. Nor The Muslim Brotherhood.

I agree, but Bennett is starting to sound like he would divide the land. Annex area C? No way! Annex ALL of Judea and Samaria!

A reasonable solution, an alternative a politically autonomous territory, local voting rights, perhaps it's own citizenship. Who knows, with Israeli control of security and without incitement in the media and schools, statehood could be revisited in a generation or two. Hard for the US and Euros to go ballistic over a system they employ, but they will.
