Cruz to join Sasse campaign rally in North Platte

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who filibustered the U.S. Senate over Obamacare, has endorsed Ben Sasse for the Senate and will join Sarah Palin and others Friday in North Platte for a Sasse rally.

“I have gotten to know Ben Sasse, and while Nebraskans have good choices, Ben is the strongest conservative voice running for United States Senate,” Cruz said . “Ben will not be just another vote in the Senate – he will be a leader in the fight to stop the Obama agenda and repeal ObamaCare from day one.  We need strong reinforcements like him in the United States Senate.”

Cruz was elected in 2012, going from a virtual unknown to winning one of the most dramatic upsets for U.S. Senate in 2012.

“There is no more zealous defender of the Constitution than Ted Cruz,” Sasses said. “It’s an absolute honor to have the support of such a strong conservative leader in the fight against ObamaCare.”

Cruz filibustered the Senate for 21 hours on Sept. 24, supporting a government shutdown unless Obamacare was defunded. The effort ultimately failed but made him a household political name.

The Sasse campaign announced Cruz’s plans to attend a rally for Sasse on Friday.

“I’m happy to be heading to Nebraska on Friday to join Kay Orr and my good friends Mike Lee and Sarah Palin to campaign for Ben in North Platte," Cruz said.

The rally will start at 10 a.m. at Scout's Rest Ranch/ Buffalo Bill State Historical Park on North Buffalo Bill Ave. Guests should arrive no later than 9:45 a.m., Sasse campaign manager Tyler Grassmeyer said.

Former Gov. Kay Orr and Sen. Mike Lee will also rally for Sasse, who is thought to be in a neck-and-neck race with Shane Osborn for the Republican nomination for the seat. The outcome will be decided in the May 13 primary election.

Sasse added, “Gov. Orr brought President Reagan to North Platte in 1987, so it is fitting that we bring these proud Reagan conservatives together at Scout’s Rest Ranch to stand where President Reagan stood and fight for the same things he believed.  We can’t wait to get to North Platte on Friday.”

At the outset of the campaign, Cruz stated that he would not make any endorsements in campaigns involving incumbent Republican Senators.

In my view, this was so he wouldn't have to endorse Cornyn.

At any rate, he's stayed true to his promise.
