The great divide is the American people and this regime. His peeps are cooking old shoes to make soup while his wife eats caviar and sips champagne but because he’s black they will accept this, fools they’ve been had but Good times are coming they can feel it!
After a couple more emails, Mr. Kornbluth let me know he was abandoning our dialogue and went on a long denunciation of my political beliefs which he had surmised from our short conversation and a few emails.
As politics is occasionally discussed on FB, one by one, I am unfriended by these guys. And that quote from the article is how it usually happens, only with much more vitrol.
It’s actually comical.
Reminds me of the sage advice of our elders: don’t get in a pissing match with a skunk.
Next time he should dine at Tad’s Steak House.
Is his wife a complete idiot? Reading the Social Register? Really?
It continues to amaze me when people are surprised by this emotional on from liberals. Emotionality is all liberals have. Take that away and they are silent.
And of course they’re going to reject you because of your beliefs. Dracula didn’t hang around with Van Helsing, did he?
Why would anyone spend a single dime in New York?
But many libs are dismayed at being called moral lepers. They don't like being judged for their moral failures. But Woody Allen and left coast lib Roman Polansky are moral lepers. Many libs equate cultural or artistic achievement with getting a free pass to commit whatever crimes they feel like. Sorry libs, there is such a thing as a moral universe.
Yet another example of the concept that “Conservatives think liberals have bad ideas; liberals think conservatives are bad people”.
I was unfriended by most liberals, and called a bigot in their parting shots. Others said I was mean for challenging their insulting and condescending posts, and that I was to stay off their pages. I told them that if the didn’t want spirited discussions, to keep their condescending remarks in their own amen corner. If I saw them I was going to answer them. They’ve mostly been silent on facebook in places where I could see them since the obamacare rollout.
As an amateur musician and lover of folk music, I've always wondered what it would be like to be singing folk songs to a group of folk aficianados and then launch into songs praising capitalism and right-wing heroes. I can imagine the reaction. Probably get a few Birkenstocks thrown at me.
The problem is the concept of breeching the divide.
If there is no other side, there is no divide
Think big, think out of the otherman’s box
Truth be told there are extremists on both sides, but I’d rather be extreme for liberty than for statism. If I’m going to err, I’d rather err on the side of less government and more liberty for citizens. There are limits to liberty of course, but we can worry about that if and when we ever move back from the status quo of way too much government.
“The question thus becomes how we can breach the divide when even the smart members of the left-wing intelligentsia will not dialogue”
You can’t. After the big “adjustment” they can either go to Canada or sit down and STFU.
Dialogue is impossible. Once one accepts that fact (and it is a fact) then it becomes obvious that the only choices are bloody conflict or peaceful secession. I vote for peaceful secession.
The six NE states have a total of 12 Senators. We could make that one state - New England. That would eliminate 10 Lib senators in on fell swoop.
This butler writer has no idea how class warfare would end for him does he.
Yes, the admission that a conversation in NY was the inspiration for a column now opens him up for audit by the State of NY and NYC, and to pay some taxes.
