Texas Republican congressman Blake Farenthold refused to ask Eric Holder questions during a Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday, saying the attorney general should be in jail for ignoring congressional subpoenas instead of testifying before Congress.
Farentholds turn for questions came towards the end of a contentious hearing. The lawmaker explained that he would not exercise his right to question the witness as a protest against Holders refusal to comply with congressional subpoenas for documents related to the IRS Tea Party targeting investigation.
Im committed to maintaining the constitutional balance of power and the authority this branch, this legislative branch, has, Farenthold said. And I just dont think its appropriate that Mr. Holder be here.
If an American citizen had not complied with one of the Justice Department subpoenas, they would be in jail, not testifying, he noted. But I realize there are questions to be asked, and Ill yield the remainder of my time to [South Carolina Republican congressman] Trey Gowdy.
Believe it or not, a lawmaker accusing the attorney general of criminal activity was not the most contentious moment of Tuesday mornings hearing. Farentholds comments were overshadowed by Holders tense altercation with Louie Gohmert, another Texas Republican

He should be in jail.
I’m sure this won’t be the only comment of that nature on this thread.
The congressman will be getting a letter from the IRS shortly.
Well, PUT him in jail, then.
You’re a congressman, so exercise a little clout and get it done.
As far as appearances go, who looks more afraid, those asking the questions or Holder?
If it wasn’t for congressmen from Texas, no republicans would be saying anything at all to this person.
Thank-You Texas!
Holder gives the Judiciary Committee the finger and the band plays on. So what else is new, kiddies?
This is not how a United States Attorney General answers questions. The Obama Administration is filled with naughty children.
Gotta no respect!
he is such a loser
The only way separation of powers can ever work is if these powers are exercised at least occasionally. Give Holder a nice cell right next to Lois Lerner.
“You don’t want to go there buddy.”
Spoken like a true thug.
Well there are 4 Texas republicans of 22 on the committee and other than Steve King and Trey Gowdy the rest of them pretty much suck. You’re naturally going to get more soundbytes from them.

Then issue a subpoena to the person who authorized the letter.
Omigod, it’s Dorfman from Animal House.
One thing Holder and company will find out soon...There is a God...and His Justice is perfect...the results of that will be their weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Keep on that path Eric, keep it up...YOU Don’t wanna go there!!!
Uh oh... someone else knows the “whatzamattayou” song?
Don’t they have their own Sgt at Arms and their own jail cell? Just sayin’
that was my thought... no class... no respect for the position... no respect for the other branches... i thought the Clinton White House was bad enough as far as incivility... this Executive office is very much not Executive... that is because a Community Organizer--not an Executive--is running the show the only way he knows how...
