Thanks for the explanation. Is this is the area they believe is 10K ft. plus deep? No doubt there can be distortions, false echo’s, etc especially if there is any terrain other than flat. When I was a kid living out in the boonies in the ridges we’d get a TV signal usually bounced off a nearby ridge.

do you know why the locations are varying? i am guessing its nothing suspicious just the signal in water but i would like to know. no doubt as they get closer and closer its gets more accurate...is that how it works?

that had allowed the search area to be further refined to 75,000 sq km.

If that map is accurate it looks like a refined area much smaller than 75,000km -- closer to 2,000kms.

Does no one find it curious that there’s been a media blackout on the payload of tha plane?

We know about the 4 tons of mangosteens --

I think it’s intact too, but not in the water.

My thoughts, this isn’t a simple crash, and I don’t believe it did crash. There was way too much preparation and practice.

...uh, why not? Be fun to find out the pinger was planted and a whale ate it.

I recall reading, perhaps here, that the Ocean Shield was hired after a one day contract was let out for an empty cargo ship. I felt then that it would be used to seed an area with possibly plane debris and pinging device. I’m sure the Arab wonder is in on this and doing his “flights to distract” so he won’t be sent home on a tarred rail.

Fair enough. One can size the image with a height=nnn command (300-400 usually works well).

I prefer to post the image on FR as a courtesy to my fellow FReepers, but your reasoning makes perfect sense to me. Too early for deep pondering, will ponder more after coffee...

You are correct, but I think ltc8k6’s point is that the source site gets more hits/credit/revenue if people click on a link.

But what do I know? ooooo the coffee just chirped! BBL...

If there is a bird chirping in the woods, where do you hear the chirp? Does that change when the wind is blowing, when you are near trees or cliffs?

There were three weeks remaining on the black box batteries when the focus turned to the Indian Ocean. A 24-hour call for tenders sounds right to me, given that constraint. Do you have a link to your information? Your theory is that this is a Wag the Dog operation. I can see how Serbia helped Clinton, but this is just a sideshow. The only beneficiary is CNN.

A lot of things affect the way sound moves through water. Changes in depth, temperature, and salinity will cause sound to move faster or slower and curve the direction in which it travels. Layers of warmer and colder water can trap the sound, like trying to transmit it through the roof of your house. As sound curves upwards it converges and can literally bounce off the surface only to be detectable again miles away. These don't prevent you from narrowing down the location of the sound source but they do make it more challenging.
