Ideally, there wouldn't be such a thing as a "hate crime" on the books. We shouldn't be in the business of punishing motives, particularly on racial vs. ethnic grounds, only actions.

However, since we're stuck with it now, the options are either selective enforcement, i.e. (rare) white on black crimes treated as "hate crimes" while (common) black on white crimes not subject to the same laws, or we can make the best of a bad situation and at least see to it that a stupid law is justly enforced. What we have now is a system where blacks and other "minorities" basically get away with crimes that others don't get away with.

I find this so terribly sad.

The poor guy did everything right and the animals attacked him. I’m sure if he could,he would remember a racial slur being thrown at him.

The government will be more than delighted to let you "stand up" to hate crime laws when they're applied against blacks, because they have no real intention of ever applying these laws against minority sacred cows. So the net result of your "standing up" is going to be not the repeal of hate crime laws, but their continued application solely to whites. But you can pat yourself on the back for "standing up" to something in those situations where it's never even going to be applied in the first place.

Firstly, I’m really disappointed at all the arguing that goes on here at the FR lately... Little stupid crap...

The bigger picture is that the obama/holder regime LOVES this stuff. They are making the way for these type of incidents to escalate and increase. They WANT us fighting.

How long are we going to put up with a govt. that encourages and provokes this behavior?

Incidentally, the only circumstance under which our courts and legislators would move an inch to repeal "hate crime" laws is if they're suddenly applied to blacks and other sacred cows of the Left. If you really want to see hate crime laws repealed, as we all do, the best way to do so is to get the Left and its enablers to scream bloody murder when the same laws backfire in the faces of their pet constituents.

Good point — the distinction makes a world of difference in understanding this incident. That video was being shot BEFORE the kid ran into the side of the truck sort of reveals that someone was either memorializing the “dash” game you described, or expecting an even more video-worthy incident, like a cracka’ beatdown.

Has there been any “official explanation of:
1) Where the “video” came from;
2) Who was shooting video BEFORE the kid impacted the car;
3) Why?

Something tells me that local LE and media will play dash and dodge with the ugly truth unless it breaks their leg.

The video came from a gas station security cam. It is always on.
