A large chunk of American adults are no longer in the labor force. That has left economists divided over how many of them are voluntarily not working-or even looking for work-because they wanted to retire, go to school or take care of family members, versus how many have been forced out because they couldn't find a job.

You can jack taxes up only so high before the money stops being put into the economy.

Because the 47 percent realize that NOT working and collecting welfare checks, cashing in EBT cards, living in subsidized housing, plus hundreds of other free perks is better than working, we see - easily see - why unemployment is over 20 percent.

Anything you subsidize, you get more of. Anything you tax, you get less of.

We are now subsidizing sloth and taxing jobs.

When there are no jobs, or only 1 job for every 3.2 people (per the JOLT report), what do you expect them to do?

All that means is we’re creating a huge constituency for the next left-wing charlatan who comes along and promises to recreate the WPA.

“... NOT working and collecting welfare checks ...”

Well, Mrs. Repeal has been unemployed for 3 years, now.
She does not collect welfare checks, and no, she is not a sloth.
There are very few jobs out there for a 60+ year old.

Before all that,
we lived a nice life, contributed to savings, and had plans for retirement.
Now,
we have cut back on everything, are living off our savings, and have no plans for retirement.

There are many, many more people that I know of that are in the same boat.
So, I’m thinking you might want to direct your comments a little differently.

If you are working in this economy, consider yourself blessed.

they’re not working ... because the administration has overseen the destruction of millions of jobs (and prevents or disincentivizes the creation of new ones)

we have 2 and a half more years of this downward spiral, gang, get used to it...

Very simple. There is no way they could even begin to claim success at 10% unemployment. Keynesianism would be relegated to the trash bin once and for all. But much like the Depression, as long as the rate slowly ticks down over time, liberals claim victory.

People who criticize the unemployed and call them lazy need to walk a mile in their shoes in this economy. I do not wish ill on people, but I do hope that people who have such a disdain for the unemployed will soon become unemployed themselves. I have been out of work for 8 months and have been on 9 interviews. Luckily, I have a family support system to fall back on an savings to put to use. Accordingly, I am going back for my MBA.....but not everyone has this as an option. Best of luck.

A significant of those “not working” now have gone over to the bad side: they prefer to be on trumped-up SS disability and other “benefits”...they have become parasites. That isn’t being mean-spirited...it is being realistic. They feel that if you have a work ethic you are a chump.
