Coulter: Mitt Romney in 2016; "Cruz A Disaster On Illegal Immigration"
Real Clear Politics ^ | 4/3/2014 | Staff

HOWIE CARR, HOST: Who are you for, for president right now, Ann?

ANN COULTER: Well, don't tell him but I'm planning on giving Mitt Romney a little more time to rest -- flying out, kidnapping him and depriving him of sleep, food and water until he agrees to run again.

CARR: You're kidding?

COULTER: No.

CARR: You really want him to run again?

COULTER: Yeah, I think he was a fantastic candidate. As I've told you before, he would have won by a larger landslide than Ronald Reagan did in 1980 without Teddy Kennedy's immigration bill. And it's basically impossible to beat an incumbent, but he is head and shoulders better than the other candidates we had. And I don't want to name them, but I mean you go through the list -- and for one thing, as you and I discussed, and this is the most important point, that all of your listeners have to tell all of their friends knock it off with the Congressmen or inspirational figures. It's got to be a Governor or a Senator, preferably a Governor. And, you know, there is a limited world -- a list of who those people are, and they all have problems. None of them are articulate and reasonable, and as good on immigration as Mitt Romney! CARR: What about Ted Cruz?

COULTER: Well, he's a lot worse on immigration.

CARR: Is he that bad? I didn't think he was that bad on immigration.

COULTER: Well, most Republicans are, that's why you need to call your Congressman. I'm not singling out Ted Cruz, he has the same position a lot of these idiots have. 'Oh yes, let them come here and we have a special permit, we just won't give them citizenship. But we want to increase ...

I found FR via Ann Coulter. I don’t know what’s going on with her.

Mitt Romney didn't directly hire illegal aliens to landscape the government mansion or his home on Marsh Street in Belmont, MA. A landscaping company, Community Lawn Service with a Heart, hired the illegal aliens.

However, Romney continued to use Community Lawn Service and its illegal alien landscapers for a year after the Boston Globe first reported on December 1, 2006 that illegal aliens were providing the landscaping at Romney's home in Belmont.

The owner of the landscaping company was Ricardo Saenz, a legal immigrant from Colombia, who was a member of Romney's church. Romney met Saenz through the church.

According to the Globe article, Community Lawn Service with a Heart was rife with illegal aliens, at least one of whom had been employed for ten years. There was a network through the illegal alien Guatemalan community supplied the company with workers.

After receiving notice of the situation, Romney spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, said the governor was looking into the situation. Romney fired the landscaping company a year later, on December 4, 2007.

During Romney's tenure as governor, Community Lawn Service also provided landscaping services for the Massachusetts Port Authority and at least one public school. I am unaware of any allegations that Romney influenced those contracts.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul On Shutdown: “Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea”

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Senator, when Obamacare was at issue, a month ago, when it came to a continuing resolution to funding the government you supported a filibuster of other Senators, who demanded that you had to have a change or the abolition of Obamacare as a condition for funding the government. In retrospect do you think that was a good strategy? But even more importantly —looking ahead, the deadlines are coming up, the resolution’s going to run out, we’re going to hit the debt ceiling soon — would you be prepared to use same tactic as we approach the new deadlines? SEN. RAND PAUL (R-KY): Well, I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it’s a conundrum. Here’s the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can’t give the president a blank check. We just can’t keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can’t vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don’t we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

Can you not read?

The one other sentence I wrote was that she was wrong about Romney.

But she is right, Cruz is for a legalization that will lead to the end of conservatism in this country. Brava to her, at least, for pointing that out—however misguided she is about Romney.

I think you Texans live in an environment that is so far gone re: illegals, that neither you nor your polls can think and speak straight about it. (With the exception, apparently, of Louie Gohmert.)

Let’s build a gigantic international shipping channel along our southern border from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean to completely separate us from Mexico. It could stop the illegals and drugs from running across the border. Screw the Panama Canal. We’d make billions.

Sorry. I used the View Replies function to see the responses to Tennessee Nana’s post, which I thought inaccurately presented the ‘illegal landscapers’ situation vis-a-vis Romney. I replied to that before reading the zillion other responses that didn’t link to the original post.

As Dolly Parton said a few days ago: “It costs a lot to look this cheap.” Maybe Ann’s just trying too hard?

Ann claims her two major food groups are cigarettes and chablis.——neither of which grow neurons. Does indeed sound like she’s running a deficit?

You did a good job of starting to flesh out how deep Romney was with the illegals.

I was waiting for blowback before I went all 2008, on the posters who don’t know the depth of this story.

If your post 222 and post 171 isn’t enough, we can keep posting more of what was revealed in that 2008 cycle.

“WHERE IS CRUZ SAYING HE WILL ALLOW 30,000,000 TO ENTER THE USA?”

Ok, I’m sorry. First, he supports legalizing and keeping 12,000,000 people here. Do you you understand how immigration works? Once they are here, they BRING THEIR FAMILIES HERE and those people sure as heck can and will get green cards, and then become Americans and vote. Dammit, what do you think happened after the 1986 Amnesty - we were PROMISED that the border would be LOCKED DOWN and there would be no more illegal immigration - instead we LOST CALIFORNIA FOREVER. If Cruz gets his way, Texas will be gone and gone fairly soon.

Try to think a bit past your need for cheap, reliable, labor and into the future a bit. Like I said, I like Cruz, but I DO NOT like him enough to wreck the country.

“Which was what Romney’s position was as well. Put the squeeze on and they self-deport. Arizona’s SB1070 proved it works beyond any shadow of doubt.”

It’s really the only way - GET THEM TO LEAVE, and then invite in people that are screened and with the clear expectation that they will NOT be making this place home...at least for guest workers.
