San Antonio Police confront rifle carrying 19 y.o.

Open gun-carriers are prime examples. In Texas, you can open carry a rifle. But when people see others open carrying a gun, the first thing many of them do is call the police…just in case. (If you see something, say something.) I don’t really have any problem with the police following up on these calls, but most of them take it way too far, and they overreact in the name of “public safety.”

Concealed carry holders understand the law - Section 411.207 of the Texas Government Code addresses this question. A peace officer can disarm a CHL "at any time the officer reasonably believes it is necessary for the protection of the license holder, officer or another individual."

The peace officer shall "return the handgun to the license holder before discharging the license holder from the scene if the officer determines the license holder is not a threat . . . ." This assumes the CHL is not arrested at the scene. This is not to argue against open carry of long guns in Texas or the ignorance of complaining people, or the pros or cons of the existing laws, BUT what applies to concealed carry holders should certainly apply to those that open carry.

How do they do that?

By asking the person in question?

Hey, are you a threat? No, I am not....lol

Perhaps your logic is backwards. Why not say, "But what applies to those that openly carry should certainly apply to those who conceal carry"?

Don't you think if the Second Amendment was meant to contain all these traps for the people keeping and bearing arms that there might be some mention of it in the Bill of Rights?

There’s a day coming, sooner than many might think, when there won’t be nearly enough police, deputies, security, paramilitary and military to take hardly anyone’s weapons. I didn’t use to want to see that day come. Now I do.

That is a rogue rifle if it was carrying a 19 year old. Shoot it.

I still don't want to see it happen, but like you, I am convinced it will happen, sooner or later. The gun control freaks/pinko commie geeks are looking for their Reichstag fire. Dingy Harry is already tying to exploit the latest Fort Hood shooting.

“BUT what applies to concealed carry holders should certainly apply to those that open carry”

Well, only if the law is actually written that way. Is it? Or did you just make that up?

The rifle was quoted as saying, “He’s not heavy. He’s my brother.”

I’m glad they didn’t have tazers when I was growing up in Texas. We would ride bikes several miles out to the lake with .22 rifles across the handlebars. For safety’s sake, they were not carried loaded. (We took NRA training back in the Stone Age too.)

Here is one of the comments after the article.

I'm from San Antonio. I would bet Julian Castro, our infamous mayor, has a hand in it somewhere. The minority liberals LOVE this city! And our local newspaper, the Express-News, is also super liberal. Lots of empathy around here, no common sense. I'm sure this idea originated with our "gay" supporting mayor, whose twin brother is a homosexual and who is a "best buddy" of Obama.

Castro is the lib puke that's being groomed for higher office by the rats. "Hispanic", gay friendly and anti 2nd amendment.
