The U.S. government masterminded the creation of a Cuban Twitter a communications network designed to undermine the communist government in Cuba, built with secret shell companies and financed through foreign banks, The Associated Press has learned. The project, which lasted more than two years and drew tens of thousands of subscribers, sought to evade Cubas stranglehold on the Internet with a primitive social media platform. First, the network would build a Cuban audience, mostly young people; then, the plan was to push them toward dissent.

Yes, but it's against communists, so I'm sure it irritated them.
I would say it’s big news that this government is still concerned about the oppressed people of Cuba.
Workers paradise-free medical including end of life counseling.
Sounds similar to the approach they used when they made the real twitter and facebook no ?
Rogue elements within the Administration must be behind this. They will all be severely reprimanded.
This report could cause major harm to Alan Gross who is serving 15 years in a Cuban prison. IMO, the damn AP traitors set up Gross and turned him over to the Cuban commies. Here’s some background:
Isn’t Twitter a civil/human right?
Sorta like the old Radio Free Europe
To my mind the most important question to ask is who leaked this to AP and why? According to the story, the program was getting started in 2010, when Obama was already in office. So my initial thought, that the article as a dump by the current administration on something decent done by W, is wrong. But there’s no way this stuff could have been leaked by anyone sympathetic to actual freedom in Cuba. And by the way, the Miami media is mostly very hostile to Castro; i would have expected them to be more troubled by the leak and by the fact that the program ended than by the fact of the program itself.
Wow.
So they CAN do something right once in a while.
Who knew??
With barry at the helm? You must be joking.
Astonishing, actually.
Just trying to promote a Cuban Spring.
What is the purpose of explicitly describing this and posing that it is some nefarious spy-like action?
Have you seen or read Miami media during the last three years? They are not necessarily hostile to Castro. Not anymore.
Was that the goal, or was this administration trying to draw out “revolutionary subversives” who posed a threat to Communist Cuba (expose them)?
Obama’s foreign policy has not been against Communism or Islamist imperialism.
